Western Bulldogs want in on possible future Good Friday AFL game

Lol was just having a closer look at our fixture. Not only do we have only 7 saturday games for the year, were the home team in just 3 of those games, against Brisbane, Gold Coast and Richmond. That is ****ing ridiculous, the fixture is a joke and needs to be fixed if Gil is serious. How can anyone say we don't deserve good friday

I had a brilliant thought (yeah and the sun rises in the east, i know)

There has been some concern about the ability of us and whoever, I am assuming it will be North, attracting a big crowd. Both teams play home matches interstate with a designated away game as the home game to compensate members. Whoever is the away team nominates this match as the compensating home game. Helps increase the crowd, creating better atmosphere, making it more of an event, hopefully leading to increased crowds next year and on it builds until it stands alone without the help. worth a try me thinks.

Excellent point. Can't see why it wouldn't be the case, now you mention it.

We also should be trying to grow the women's breast cancer game against Melbourne

All I see is the mention on the various footy shows with maybe a player from the clubs in one of them. I don't see much outside promotion. We have had some terrible wet weather footy in these days in the past and looks like it might be again.

If it holds we could get 30k+ imo

Hey guys sorry to intrude.

If we want to advertise a potential Dogs vs North Good Friday contest this week is our big opportunity. Friday Night, first vs second. If we don't fill etihad in these circumstances then how can we honestly make a case for GFF?

I know it's a North home game but it would be great for both our club's in the long term if we get a big crowd. 40k minimum. I'm hoping the fact that you guys are finally back on Friday night for the first time in years will help grow the crowd. But for the sake of both our club's fortunes make sure you all get along and bring all your mates and family members.

Should be a cracker of a match. Hope you go home miserable :)

In all honesty the dogs should have the balls to realize that North will be paired with Carlton so approach Port or Adelaide and partner a game for their appeal that's broadcast on fox. I'm sure they would work out a travellers package for those willing.

I'd rather have something than nothing.

We're fighters, don't think we're going to just give up and lay down anymore, and neither should we. Bugger that, taking a compromise like that. I want GFF and i'll ****ing fight for it!

Sure, but I bet when it doesn't happen we do nothing thereafter.

We should fight for pink lady night game to become more than it is, one we actually did alot of innovating towards women's footy.

Well this is the problem. It should not be about how many people we can get to a game, it should be about how we can gain exposure to build our brands and therefore our supporter base. If they don't break the status quo then we will just play theses games between the big clubs and so it self perpetuates. It's a disgrace that the ANZAC day remain domain of just 2 clubs, let's not hand the big clubs any more leg ups.

Every club should be play at least once on Friday night. It needs to be shared around I feel. Doesn't matter where all the clubs are on the ladder Friday

Not for mine.

I agree there shouldn't be a monopoly on it for the big clubs, but last year, coming home and watching Carlton stink it up week after week became tedious.

Generally the AFL get it right though by giving it to the good teams.

Yeah I agree. But knowing who will be good before the season is hard. But blow me down, they gave Essendon a Friday night game, how does that work?

Thought the same thing, but then realized the fixture was prob done before the sanctions came down

For all those who think North and Carlton will get the Good Friday fixture because they are close to the children's hospital??? Good Friday isn't about the children's hospital! That's one thing, just here in Melbourne. It's actually about a sacrafice even bigger than the ANZACs that we've just honoured. And even if you don't care for the Christian religion anymore, its founder was a pretty impressive fella that has helped shaped our world for the better. And if we could only live up to those ideals.
Anyway, honour those ideals as we make Good Friday footy the must go to match in our calendar.
