Re: Western Region Football League team

who else are the hard nuts in the competition? ive heard hoppers have picked up some tough players, namely doug thomas being number 1 but also barry from donvale/werribee VFL is very tough ive heard. downey and murphy also apparantley very tough players. add to this adam taylor and david clonan then all of a sudden this soft outfit from last year doesnt look as soft.

noone will get close to the colts in terms of physicality though!

looks like its shaping up for a big season. anyone care to name a player they think is ready to take the next step, maybe someone who didnt do to much last year but you think this year will step up to be a regular good senior player??[/quote]

Not to sure about downey's hardness lol,but i think hoppers have always had hard players but just had some real soft ones in amongst them and they really standout,as you mentioned taylor and clonan and we all respect them alot,it's just the soft ones always stand out.

A couple of players i think will stand up this year for colts that played alot of ressies last year are Kaine williams,he kicked 6 against our two's in the gf last year and he did play seniors in hoppers 06 senior loss to us and he is still only 20 so a great pick up for us,another player in tyson huggins 19 he won our reserves bnf and dominated the intra club last nite he is fit as a fiddle and has lots of speed,he has also built up alot over the pre season.

Re: Western Region Football League team

practice matches i believe are as follows, dont quote me this is just what ive heard on the grapevine:

Sunshine vs Tongala Saturday 08/03/08

Sunshine vs Bell Park Sunday 16/03/08

Port Colts intra club Tuesday 11/03/08

Hoppers intra club Thursday 13/03/08

Hoppers vs Werribee VFL reserves Thursday 20/03/08

Hoppers vs a team from Northern League unsure who Saturday 29/03/08

Glenorden vs a BFL side (possibly Melton or Melton south) 29/03/08

St Albans are playing a night practice match against someone in the next 2 weeks also.

Sunshine may also be playing Darley. just looking for a suitable ground as Darleys is booked most weekends. Rumour has it there will be a thursday night game.

robbie mentha and doug thomas a lot has been spoken about these two. hard nuts apparantley. ive seen a bit of robbie mentha and wondered does he still have those dreadlocks? he just looks crazy that guy. yes he is a hardnut but doesnt get a whole lot of the ball and when he does isnt the most skillful player going around. so is his main value going to be his intimidation factor?

noone will get close to the colts in terms of physicality though!

Re: Western Region Football League team

The league gave West the opportunity at the end of the season last year not to come up to Div 1 and leave Parkside in Div 1. West took the opportunity to go up and make Parkside drop down. This has then caused many at Parkside to leave as they don't want to play Div 2 football. If West had said that they didn't want to go up, and yes they did have the chance to say that, then this problem wouldn't be happening.
West wanted to come and they can't and shouldn't go back on thier decission even if they think it was wrong. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, had they recruited players would they be wanting to go back down? the WRFL has to grow some balls and say bad luck to West they stay in Div 1 as they were the ones that wanted to go up not the League forcing them to go up.

Well said.
Whether it is pride, arrogance or stupidity West's should have seen this coming and so should have the league and acted accordingly.
It is 4 weeks until the start of the season and there is so much of an unknown, if the rumours are true. The league should hold a meeting asap and inform and update all clubs as to where they are at and it should be stated by West's committee. Regardless if they stay up or move back to DIV 2 the comp looks stupid if other clubs are not kept up to date.
Would hate to see another club become un financial and lost forever though.

Re: Western Region Football League team

ok from what ive heard from the grapvines is very interesting on how west are in the situation they are now . last year after the grand final victory they told the senior group that they were going 2 recruit 15-20 good divy 1 players, the senior group thought they were not wanted or were not good enough and started looking to go elsewhere. west never called any of them and before blokes had moved on, west already assumed they had. we all know west havnt recruited and are looking at folding or struggling badly , so therve starting bagging all the players that have left or rumored to leave and these are the players they never had in there plans to make divy 1 finals. the commitee are blaming the players for there current situation but it is the commitee and the coaches fault for there current situation. one coach has already stepped down and the other coach from what i hear is a top bloke off the field but is not liked as a coach. there were players that hadnt yet trained and were staying but had been rumored to leave by the west commitee and coaches. once these players found out they were getting bad mouthed they didnt want to play there anymore. funny that these players are labelled as merchaniery's but none of them were offered 2 year contracts becuase west only wanted them for a divy 2 flag and didnt want them for division 1. if this is the end of west footscray the coaching staff and commitee have only themselves to blame . i guess that 5 year plan was to destroy the club .

Is an interesting scenario and situation teh league has found themselves in. West are really struggling with 20 on the track last week, 15 of them U/18 players.
Here is what I think will happen,
They will go to the league adn asked to drop back to Div 2.
The league will say can you try and get a side because they will not want a 9 team div 1 and an uneven div 2.
In 2 weeks I think yarra (after seeing numbers) will also go and ask the league to move to div 2 and both west and yarra will drop a grade. This will create a 8 team div 1 and I think 14 or 12 team div 2.
Both the bottom clubs are really struggling and playing a lower grade is possibly better than getting thumped by 40 goals each week aka, seddon.

what is going on down there, the players blaming the committee and vice versa, fact is they are all to blame, surely the players from last year would know they are required going up a division and add recruits otherwise how would they club field a side each week, just a bul1sh1t excuse to say no-one called and pumped up my tyres and told me i was a required player so i moved on, weak as piss imo

the appointment of the coach i think was a massive mistake too and this is just my opinion, but going up to 1st division the club had to either keep the coach who had been in charge for the 1st year up or appoint someone from outside the club who would bring some players and create some excitement in the place so everyone would stick around

i don't know the guys who got the job and they may be terriffic blokes, but to appointment guys who are 1st time coaches they were always going to make a few blues(like not ringing players to tell them they are required etc) being new to coaching, was always a massive gamble with west going up a division i think

so in summary everyone involved in the club last year needs to take some responsibility for the situation the club finds itself in at the moment because nothing will improve if you keep pointing the finger

Albion v Altona

Not sure how many seen the game but must admit it was good.

Altona were admirable and the two teams played well...

it was good to see the spirit of the game displayed.. kudos to Altona for their efforts and even though it was like 50 million degrees it was a good hit out!!!

thank you Altona!!!

Re: Western Region Football League team

Yarraville/Seddon to meet with League this week to advise that they want a 1 year rest for the seniors so that they can build the club up adminstrativley and come back into 2nd Div in 09.

West defientley want to go back to 2nd Division.

Big problems for the League, if Yarra/Sed want out for 1 year, then they will probably drop West back to avoid the bye in Div 1.But this will certainly stuff up the current fixture and for clubs that have already planned thier social callender will all be pretty p.ssed.
Would this then become a 16 week season or will they have it that each club plays 2 other teams 3 times?

Bad luck to Hoppers, wanted to utilise Glenorden's ground for a practice match and rightly so Glenorden knocked them back.

So not have a team playing at all (in open age)? That is interesting. What do you mean build the club up administratively? I thought it was players they were lacking, not off field support, $$$ etc

There used to be a quite a few Y/S people on Big Footy, but haven't had much from them of late. Would be interesting to hear from an insider at the club.

Looks like only a matter of time before West drops back. The league won't want them to fold.

I herd steve savalas was out gloating about albions chances at the beach hotel..................

got down for the second half of the game, short quarters.but can't blame the two clubs due to heat!

they didn't have the score up, but from what i could see albion probably kicked 7-8 more then altona in the second half.

a lot of unknown faces.
Zavalis and Doorwood wern't playing, unaware if they played the first half and finished up or just made the decision not to play.

Number 16 for altona in the centre was good, and number 18 up forward had a good set of hands, a few young guys tryed out in the midfield did well also heard a lot of altona's 1's were out .

As for albion, Knezivik was good, Butena kicked a few and a few unknown young blokes around midfield were good.

Was a good game.

Port Melb have an unconfirmed practice against Stkilda City on the 29/03 will be confirmed tomorrow

haha how could they even consider asked g/o for usage of there ground... i agree rightly so knocked back.. hoppers can get ****ED!

Re: Western Region Football League team

He didnt fit into our team structure and culture, he is too slow, fat and foot skills were on the decline last season, also a few alleged incidents involving him, an albion player and two of berwicks finest ladies didnt help his cause. So after a long chat with the coaching staff and commitee they came to the conclusion that if he wanted to continue playing senior football its probably best he did it interstate, because we are pretty confiident no team in victoria would want him back.

so what is the main reason beazer had gone interstate. im sure he'd be able to find a club somewhere. i must say though, he is a goose. what did he get up to in berwick? big move to just take off to qld haha.

Have to disagree there with you fellow Colts08,have known Beazer for a number of year's away from footy as well and found him to be a honest and straight forward bloke,we all like to have fun now and then but some how he seem's to crank it up.

clarky ur the biggest sprooker in the competition so dont throw stones when u live in a class house, and i will make a statement that albion will finish higher than the colts this year and im not from albion.colts will finish 4 or 5 at best

Firstly it's glass houses....anyway i did not say that savalas was doing anything wron, i like him as a person and i'm sure he will make a great coach. I agree i do pump the colts up alot, but i'm a realist and i believe we are a great side and if i didn't think we could match it with the best i would say so. We have proveD it 4 yrs in a row, playing off in the gf and with a bit of luck & kicking straight could have won all four and yes we may have got a little lucky beating hoppers in 06 but my point is we have given ourselves every chance to win the big one 4 years in a row....and this year without doubt is the best list we have had, that does not guarantee success, but we will be right up there again....so if albion finishes on top of us they will be top 3 without doubt, coz that's where we will be again.....in saying that i think the competition between the top 6 will be the highest level it has been for a while and that is great for the W.R.F.L

Read thru my previous post's goose and you should be able to work out who i follow,my knowlege of beazer are away from footy and also have a number of friends at Albion from over the year's and i bet they put more back into the club than you or are you another Parkside wog that followed stevie over, hope their money is well spent after the last few year's pick up's..
