Of course it would be nice to make something like that but we all know thats not our priority. And me not caring was in relation to whether or not you picked me in your side.

Havent heard too much to be honest. Who knows with big Ray. Dont ask him what his injury is bcos he adds a little bit of G.S.T onto it. Lol. I think he had bruised ribs but nothing too serious.

Great side strongbow, i don't think macanulty and jacobs should be in though.....they look very out of place.

you think so? i have tried to be unbiased;)
but based on round 1 i thought they were good and remember you had a lot out that day.
so no doubt after rnd 10 my thoughts team will probably change.
actually almost put libba in the team:eek:

why i have your attention Rock whats happened to young Cain Heffernan???

not an easy task this,

I'm sure others that see there teams week in week out, think i have left
some players . so put your teams up.

King saying he has no competition with in his team is pretty rough.. he is a good player. I can tell you now anyone who plays in a team as good as colts and spotty, and a key forward, should kick at least 65+ this year. With onballers moving the ball the way they do, wouldn't expect to much less... opinions??

My point was in refference to mcgregor for colts, who would go close but will have more competition from perkins, hoath, clarke macanulty, winters, and brannan, who may return in a few weeks.
Molan is injured. so mite struggle to catch king.
King i rate highly so was not putting him down, think sunshine's midfield is ok also, douglas, travvy, mentha, powell, connor, so you would think any key forward in that side should kick 65 plus also, king will but will any others step up or not????
I'm sure our two key fwds will kick 65 plus in perkins and mcgregor and i'm sure hoath, clarke, macanulty and winters along with the midfield will get their fare share.

i new this would get brought up.
picked the team on what ive seen this year not past years,
d jacobs and julier didnt play round 1 the only time i have seen port play this year:thumbsu:
did say in later post things may change after round 10:thumbsu:

This is a fair assumption Rock, do you think the standard of forwards available for say interleague, are good enough to out score other compitions such as the EDFL, Where does this compition rate in comparasion to other leagues?? Only new to the area... What are peoples thoughts..

Just heard that after the umpires strike was called off, all 22 senior club presidents met and unamiously agreed to call for the sacking of the Director of Umpiring Terry Gunn.

The following night a special committee of management met, but the call to sack Gunn was rejected by the lawyers that run the league, as Gunn had never received a warning. Four years of conflict and never been warned.

Now the executive committee of lawyers[ no local football background] have called in a retired judge to mediate with Gunn and the Umpires Association.

Only last week Gunn insists he cannot be sacked because he has the highest support from the AFL. Why the AFL should be interefering in local football is beyond me.

Fair enough but i think reading who gets in the best regularly would come into in more than most peoples teams.

While your here what happen with the lose to Albion??? Was Molan and Mcguie the reason???

Heard Willow Occy and Jensen out for a while????

not a bad idea reading best will do this for next time

yeh missed molan and mc ghie and a few others but they had players out as well, even to half time but cats to strong best side i have seen to date(didnt see hoppers game) so reckon ports win last week should have them flag favorites.

not sure bout Occy but think willow and ray got through last nites session

Beatle. Have to say that in a Rep game do not think there will be much difference between the 4 better Metro Comps in Eastern, Ess, WRFL & NFL, as there is generally a lot of Ex AFL, VFL and cream locals playing.

The difference in recents years is that Eastern & Ess clubs have higher budgets, hence being able to recruit quality from higher leagues (VFL, etc) which probably puts them ahead. There wasn't much difference in the last 90's, early 2000's, but since the demise of the VFA & metro football growing, it has help wealthier metro teams.

It is a credit to clubs like Port Colts (who I'd guess would spend $110-120K on players) and play like a $160K club, Nth Heidelberg are similar in the NFL and Keilor & West Coburg in the EDFL. These teams are gifted as they continually get home growns & have a lot of closeness within their senior groups.

I am a fan of the WRFL and think in the past 12 months or so, there has been a decent improvement across the board in Div 1, no doubt.

Div 2 has a fair bit of work, but the Top 6 or 7 in WRFL are really good, with Spotswood & Colts the benchmark.

Why would Gunn want to continue in his role knowing how much he is disliked throughout the umpiring fraternity, and it appears he isn't popular among club presidents either, why on earth would you want to work in such an environment

The guy could personally end all this crap by just handing in his resignation and then use his 'connections' at the highest level to gain further employment

Any colts players who have just read this would be picking themselves up off the ground. From what l've heard (l'm not involved with this club) player budget is only approx half of the $110/$120K you think they mite be spending. And if it's true, they are doing a good job with little finances.:thumbsu:loyalty does go a long way at some clubs.

I agree, the WRFL from an ON-field point of view has picked it up over the last 5-6 years... I remember a rep game against Eastern in early 2000's where we only went down by a goal or so, and they had a handful of recent ex-AFL players. Was a top quality game.

I hear that Gunn always claims he knows people in high places that will protect him... funnily enough, the person that has most power at AFL level (in regards to umpiring) has never met him.

Player and coach budget is around the 70k mark.
Every player on our list plays under market value, but we want players at our club that want to be there, so the club enviroment is important to them and our survival, not the money.
We have also been very lucky with our locals being very loyal.

So has he received a warning now?

A little quiet travvy, how you travelling???
The kangas have been going well, sitting top3 must be pleasing for the boys.
How you guys shaping up for this week??
Has millar gone o.s yet, we loose a few after your game.
As long as we get through training without a hiccup we should have a strong team in, we are looking forward to playing in front of the vocal sunshine faithful.

This about as spot on as you will get from an on field perspective!

I can't really compare the EDFL and WRFL from a playing pov as I have only played country footy before having a kick in this comp. In my honest opinion I would on any day of the week take a Spotty or Colts over a GVFL side, thats not disrespecting the GVFL at all because across the board the league is stronger however the best sides in the WRFL are the well drilled and physically more aggresive I have real doubts as to how the GV sides would handle it... I'm a massive fan of how the good sides in the WRFL approach there footy and honestly believe we have some of the best teams running around at local level...
