I would much rather matt maguire than some of the names thrown around like staker.
He wont cost us a thing and he could be available in the pre season draft.
He is one person I wouldnt mind having at the club.

He is not going to dominate but for the price he could fill a spot.

I been saying we should get him for 2 years.Would perfer him over Gibson. If Croady finished(hope not) we need a big gorilla type of KPD,Gibson is more a running back,Schuey will be that player.Nathan Brown (Collingwood) we also be good for use

I would like Matty maguire. If he could get fit, he would be a ral asset, especially if we could get him cheap.

I doubt they'll let him go though,. Hudghton will likely retire (in massive disappointment too i think) as he wanted to retire last year but got talked back into it. If her goes, they'll need Maguire for back up.

I went down and had a look at Maguire play in the seconds a couple of times this year.

I've always thought he'd be just the sort of player we need down at Hawthorn. And, of course, a couple of years ago there was interest from both parties regarding a trade deal. But nothing eventuated, and then he did his knee.

So I had this preconceived notion of how Maguire played which, unfortunately, after seeing him play again, I had to quickly readjust.

His turning circle is a worry now - if he was a car, he'd run out of petrol doing a U-turn.

Also, I don't think he has the pace he once had. So for me, that rules him out from playing CHB.

I'm not sure whether you'd want to be playing him off the fullback line either.

I don't think he's the answer to our defensive needs. He might end up being handy, but from the games I saw I just can't see it. Perhaps this is one of the reasons he can't crack a game with the Saints' seniors.

I hope I'm wrong. Because, yes, the Goose of old or at least a semblance of that player, would be mighty handy for us. And I'm also sad for Goose, because it's never good to see a player's career curtailed by injury.

He cant get a game because of a guy we let go ( Zac )
we are in desperate need of a KPD, dont why we ever let him go. His skills and decision making were good enough, just needed to bulk up a bit now we are looking at $250-$350 for KPD, I think the guys are doing a great job with the list, but I think they would be regretting delisting Zac who the Saints got for zilch. PSD would be ok for Matty but he can be injury prone, take a punt as a last resort only

Josh Gibson is my pick.
A little short but Strong and quick.
Played in the mid field this year.
However Staker can go into the ruck as well which is a big plus.

I have it on good authority that Goose has agreed to terms with the Hawks, and it is as good as done. Will pick him up very cheaply in the draft!

Have you got anymore info that you could share with us?
Where did you hear this from?
Could be very good news if true.

Well if we get Gibson as well here is our Backline for 2010

FB: Gibson, Gilham, Guerra
HB: Birchall, Maguire, Hodge

*with Croad to return

That's a top 4 backline

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not convinced that Maguire is the answer down back.

McGuire snapped his leg.... not did a knee as was mentioned earlier. We have seen with Nathan Brown how long it takes, if at all, to get back to your best.

Worth a punt if fit definately but only if we can get him for nothing through a draft!

I'd be interested to know whether there are any of these 'gorilla' type defenders playing in the state leagues around the country (VFL/WAFL etc)? Does anyone know if there might be a few young 21-22 year olds who might be able to do a job in the AFL? Harry Taylor style? Might be an option we are looking at?

These players like Dalziell and Anthony have seemed to slot into senior football easily. Can a key defender at this level not make the same sort of impact?

Be interested if any of you guys know of anyone that might meet the criteria we are looking for.

Cheers

You might be right but anything would be better than Murphy and you have to admit that back 6 looks a hell lot better than anything the club produced in 09

I posted earlier in this thread about Maguire. He looks slow, big turning circle etc. But yes, Murphy....

Hopefully we get him in the Pre Season draft. Always loved the Goose. Very nice bloke and a change in club could bring a second wind to his career.
