Analysis What are your clubs biggest positional needs at the draft?

Forward of centre we need a forward presence (Cadman) we also need some fast creative small forwards that have strong defensive accountability.

We could use some more speed across the board and all our future draftees need to be team oriented and run both ways. Would love some more indigenous lads who offer a point of difference, speed and skill.

Not convinced about our rucks but give them another year.

Pretty convenient draft class for GWS given your needs. Cadman aside, the draft is terrible for talls but great for speed. Could do a lot to address needs with those late 1st rounders

1. Swingman not fussed which end, a tall of some sort, either one to help Logan or a defender to take the real tall forwards, we have plenty of 2nd/3rd taels and we traded Francis in too.
2. Inside mids, probably a Kennedy type ideally
3. Ruck

Tall midfielder who plays more inside than outside is ideal. Another young half back or small defender wouldn't go astray. In a perfect world we'd go:

Tsatas, Hustwaite, Davey x2, Munkara Cat B and some sort of half back (Conor McKenna coming home :p)

1. Contested marking key forward
2. Inside midfielder
3. Lock down key back

None of them have to play immediately and have the same development timeframe of about 2-3 years.

Interesting. I feel like if Jefferson goes before your pick you might be willing to trade back to our second. That'll put you in range to take Hayes, Keeler and Szybkowski with those three picks.

Wouldn’t be disappointed in that outcome.

Although I’m getting hopeful that Hewett may be available at our first, which would change the approach slightly.

  1. Tall, inside / outside goal kicking mid with elite pace and skill (e.g. Dangerfield 2017, Lachie Whitfield combo)
  2. Outside/inside 190cm mid with elite skills and goal kicking ability (e.g. Bontempelli)
  3. Athletic, 210cm ruck with good skills, follow up and contested mark, who likes to rest forward and can average 1 goal per game (e.g Max Gawn/ Naitanui combo)
  4. Fast, rebounding defender with long, elite skills (Adam Saad / Jordan Dawson combo)
  5. Skilful, strong, athletic 200cm KPD (Tom Barrass / Aliir Aliir combo)
  6. 190cm mid/forward (e.g. Dustin Martin circa 2017)
Other that that, I think the list is in good shape.

Key back to support sdk plus a key forward (hawk 34 and neale is a flight risk imo) and could use another mid.
Dont need small fwds or rebounding back flankers.
Probably need another ruck but more likely to do it next year as ceglar and stanley will retire then and 2023 is a better draft for talls.

George Wardlaw has a desire to play for Essendon unfortanley wont get passed North

Maybe in 2 years time he'll request a trade to Essendon
If that plays out then with that sort of exposure to good leadership off the field he’s primed to end up initially at the Gold Coast and then take a senior position at the afl.

There were Essendon fans 100% convinced that Jamarra’s agent had promised to get him drafted to Essendon, then that he’d be traded before his first season, after his first season, after his second season, you name it. Always the narrative that he hated Bevo and only ever wanted to be at Essendon. Most guys don’t ask for a trade to another team just because they grew up supporting him.

I wasn't he was never a chance imo

We need talls but I don't think we will be getting them this draft. Although I suspect we will take some tall rookies.

Big bodied inside mid - Enter Wardlaw or Phillipou. Prefer Phillipou tbh.

A couple of other positions we struggled last year in half forward, key back, key forward and a relief ruck/forward.
We have the players on the list to fill those deficits.

Would definitely say KPD, as we've basically no depth if one of Henry or DeKoning goes down, and it really screws up our system if Blicavs is forced to play key back.
Exactly why I'm keen on Hayes
