What country would you never visit?

Gotta agree with sbagman, I made a decision ages ago that i'll never travel to a first world country again, that also counts out virtually all the english speaking ones. Just doesn't interest me in the slightest (except for vegas i'd go back there for a week.)

Sweden, etc. are first world ... why wouldn't you go there?

uh oh... the anti US leftie brigade, right on cue too.

Not anti-US, I had a wonderful holiday there a few years back, but to say you love everything about the place is just a tad extreme. I hope eastaugh36 is enjoying his Aaron Carter albums, his George Bush effigy, and the consequences of US foreign policy.

The sport, the wrestling, L.A, New York, the food. I can't wait to go there!!!!!!

Yeah, if you want an exaggerated and overblown version of our own 'culture.' I'm sure there are some nice things to see there...but there's plenty of other countries I'd rather visit before touching the US. On the other hand, Canada I'd love to go to. Not only do I have one of my best friends there, but from her descriptions, photos, etc, I think it'd be beautiful.

Any country in the middle of a war zone is not appealing right now.

Israel and Palestine are both great places - pity they are also both full of radical ning nongs.
The mid-east is an awesome place to go if you ever get the chance.

I wouldn't go to Singapore again and Nth Korea sounds pretty bad. Would have loved to go through Afghanistan but missed my chance and then it went to hell and back.

I have a love-hate relationship with the US. When I'm there I want to be somewhere else but I always want to go back. Very loopy country.

eg. Victorian number plates; 'The garden state'
Massachussets (sp) number plates 'Live free or die'. Sheesh.

The risk of being blown to pieces would be a disincentive for many people.

You're probably more at risk of being eaten alive by a three-leged
poisonous mongoose then you are of being hurt in a terrorist attack. Go to the country yourself and you will see how safe it truly is.

As for most beautiful country in the world, depends what you are into ... desolute, faded, beauty does little for me. Tahiti is the most beautiful country in the world.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You obviously find the natural beauty of a country like Tahiti to be appealing. Fair enough. I guess Israel has its own unique beauty that can only be described by those who have been. Desolute and faded it certainly isn't. But yeah, you really do have to interested in a country that has spawned the majority of modern history and existence as we know it to find its beauty.:)

Your loss with Canada mate. Sure Anglo cities like Vancouver, Toronto etc etc are like ours, but Montreal is the weirdest most unique place I've been two. Two languages, two cultures, fighting with each other, blending into each other. Very weird.

A US comic (forget who) once remarked the same thing... all the street beggars are perfectly bi-lingual. Must be very odd.

I was in Bosnia and Dubrovnik and some bits of Montenegro when the Kosovo war was on. My mum in mt martha was absolutely freaking in her emails to me, but it really was business as usual over there, other than the fact you'd see jet fighters flying overhead flat out. I was on FKK beaches mostly though, so had my mind on other things!;)

One of the wierder things I've ever seen, a floating kiosk that visits the beaches on the Croatian islands with seats and everything on the back of the boat filled with nude germans eating chips and ice creams.

Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, Somalia, Colombia, Laos, North Korea.

I can't wait to travel the world, but I don't get the attraction of those sorts of places. If a place can get you killed, there better be damn-good things to do and see.

You can get killed anywhere. eg.ivan milat, childers hostel, sept 11, that bloke in the NT who got that pommie couple, port arthur. shouldn't ever let hype reasons stop you from going somewhere. Bolivia and columbia are awesome. Syria has some amazing ruins. Iran and Iraq I've heard are fantastic places to travel with lovely people, Laos the same. One place I'd love to go to is Yeman. Ethiopia too.

I realise that of course, but I'd be very surprised if the chances of me dying whilst travelling through Germany or New Zealand are the same as Iraq or Afghanistan...:)

I guess you could say that I want to live long enough to go to all the places I *do* want to go to, before I start worrying about the ones I don't.

Using that logic, I'm sure there are plenty of other countries that you would prefer to live in besides Australia..

...? Sure, if Australia wasn't so...American influenced. Australia is more like Canada than it is the USA, and I'd rather keep it that way.

Nice to see that you're so well informed for a person that hasn't visited either of these countries, yes?
