The status that has always alluded the coasters.

If you had the magic wand, who would your pick be for us?

90s, noughties or last decade?

Noughties team had genuine dynasty written all over it…

‘05 was just one of those where it could have gone either way, we got their in ‘06 and as for ‘07…we were up to eyeballs in it but too much went awry late in the year. Not sure we beat geelong though, even if we were able to run out with a fit Cuz, Judd & Kerr.

I still believe we were a genuine chance in 2019, up to round 23 when we blew it.
We had Richmond covered when we played them, until it pissed down. We were second on the ladder after round 21.
The players must've just lost the will after the Richmond game or something. But up to then I believe that we were genuine contenders.

I agree. We were humming along, and suddenly the wheels fell off. Rain in the Richmond game, then Willie's misdemeanours the round after I think, and that was it. It's been all downhill ever since.

I sort of agree. However, if you actually look at our Grand Final team, it's amazing we were competitive at all in that game. Travis Gasper, Kasey Green, a dead Michael Gardiner named at full forward

Kasey Green was a decent defender. Not an all time great but the sort of steady role player you always see somewhere in premiership sides.

He was decent-ish and actually played pretty well on GF days as well from memory. My point remains that there were a lot of average players named in that team. (Partly due to injuries).

Phil Matera, Michael Braun, Qstick (form) all missing from memory.

The biggest what if is and always will be, what if Scott Lucas didn't go berserk in Q4 Round 22, 2007?

People bang about this squad blowing a chance at a second flag, but IMO the early 90s group had a third flag in them before this group had a second. The 00s group had a second flag in them before this one too.

1993 was the real let down year with seemingly no one wanting the flag.

We lose to Geelong in the GF
Full strength that would have been some game but with Judd, Kerr and Cousins out we would have gone beaten pretty comfortably. I wouldn't think a Port-style flogging was in order, but probably something like 2015.

Judd probably would have been picked for a grand final but hadn't played a good game since halfway through the season (People talk about 2007 as GAJ's breakout year which it absolutely was but Judd completely owned the first half of the year and it's always forgotten about). Kerr hadn't played since Round 20 so I doubt he is playing in a GF, although I can't remember specifically what injury he picked and google isn't being kind to me. Cousins did a hammy in the Port QF so he was no chance for GF - I guess there's an argument that had we not let Essendon back into that game we would have finished second, had a home QF in which we would have comfortably handled Port and Cousins never does his hamstring.

It was the Richmond game that spelt the end for us in 2019 imo.

We threw everything at them, probably should have won even with the rain, but we came up short.

Win that and we finish top 2, the Hawthorn game gets put away because belief/motivation and by the time we hit finals our tails are up and we've got the home double.

I think once top 2 was unattainable we lost belief. We managed to get ourselves up for the finals again (Essendon game was champagne) but Rioli killed our already slight underdog chances against Geelong.

Even with the Rioli thing I reckon we make the GF if we finish top 2. It would also have happened on our week off.

Shame really, that elimination final with Jetta, Rioli, Ryan, Nic Nat all firing was a fun team.
