What is the best pub in Perth?

I miss pubs. Remember in my youth going to the Nookenburra, Swanbourne, Herdsman, Old Melbourne, OBH, Highway, Floreat, Scarborough, Knutsford Arms etc. Back when they were real pubs. Cheap beer, pies, toasted sangas etc and Raunchy girls. :(

I like the Paddo, Norfolk and Clancy's in my old age.

Not happy with the Inglewood anymore, $8.20 for a pint of VB. Heaven knows how much a decent beer costs. Good for sports coverage though.

Flying Scotsman probably my fav these days. Reasonably cheap, excellent happy hours and plays some decent music on a saturday.

Hyde Park, cool juke box, 60 cent games of pool and reasonably cheap drinks. The Rosemount was OK the last time I went down too.

I don't know why people rate the Irish Pub at Burswood, it always has a shitty aptmosphere, on the big nights its impossible to get a drink, and people in there hardly ever drink like an irishman would. Posers version of an irish bar. But then everything around and associated with Burswood has to put with the aura of just absolute dreck and shit that comes from the direction of the floor. Worst casino in Australia (honorable mention to Star City for trying to pip Burswood)

People rate it because the whole place, all of it, every fitting was shipped over from Ireland. There isnt one part of that bar that isnt from Ireland. Burswood bought a pub over there, just so they could bring it back.

Thats dedication.

Except for the staff, clientele, beer and the location. Which are ultimately what makes it 'Irish' not the furnishings.

Dedicated or not, it's still a rubbish spot to have a beer.

Touche.

Me I like the Seaview and Norfolk.

Can't argue with either of those choices. Not many places in Fremantle I don't like to be honest. Though, when you go is probably more important than where you go when it comes to pubs in Perth.

Bump.

Made the mistake of heading down to The Botanica a couple of weeks back on a Friday. Had previously sworn of the place after being slugged $9 for a mid-range pint, but it was the end of a mates apprenticeship so I thought I'd give it another go.

Spent about fifteen minutes waiting in line, then they left us standing there at the head of the queue for a good half hour while the bouncers were slapping high fives with their fauxhawked w***er mates and waving them through. Eventually got sick of it and bailed to the Saint ($6.50 pints, Fat Yak and Little Creatures on tap, better looking women and a far lower w***er quotient.)

Now I've got no problem with a pub or club refusing entry due to gender balance or whatever reason, but they should at least have the courtesy to tell us they wont be letting us in so we can clear off somewhere else instead of wasting an hour or so.

Definately wont be going back there again.

My fav is the Grosvenor in East Perth.

Good prices, magnificent food and the owner is a mad keen Freo supporter and one of the best publicans around IMO. There's not many of the old school publicans left with Woolies and Coles etc buying pubs.

I'd love to hear this from a bouncer-

"It's an absolute sausage fest in there at the moment fella's. Until some more chicks rock up we're not letting anyone -except our douchetard mates - inside. Might be best to head down the road."

Then again, lining up for a pub means you're breaking one of the golden rules anyway.

How good was the Grosvenor before they banned live amplified music in there? Some great gigs at that place !!!

RTR used to have their big musicfest whatever it was called with all local bands playing throughout the pub in different rooms.

That's crap! Definitely was a vocal resident constantly complaining to the council.

Yeah, but they didn't fight it.

There was a good thread on Perthbands back in the day explaining it all.

Definitely wasn't just a case of a vocal resident. Although that was officially given as the reason.

I went to Clancys Fremantle to catch up with friends on Sunday.

I know I have already nominated it as the best pub, but it needs reiterating ! Tried 2 different beers on tap, a Feral ale and another whose name escapes me. Wife had fish and chips while I had spare ribs with jambalaya !!! Fantastic. My little boy ran off and made some friends and played on the grass. Great, great pub.

Going back on Friday night for a lads catch up and to see Dom Mariani play !

4 hanging out with grownups only - Little Creatures.
4 kid friendly - Clancy's

both were part of my "decathlon" for my 40th
kicking a footy on Freo oval was number 4 for the day.

In freo you can't beat Rosie's for a great pint of Guinness or Kilkenny, and the guinness is only $5.50 a pint on thursday nights after 8pm.
