What midfielder would "walk" into the Geelong team ATM?

Too much emphasis on team of champions instead of champion team. No doubt there are better players than some of the blokes in the Cats midfield, but they'd have to do a lot of homework before 'walking in' to the midfield.

This is being fairly conservative, but I'd be confident these guys would get a go over the 'last' midfielder (Corey/Kelly/Selwood):

ADE: Scott Thompson, Simon Goodwin
BRI: Simon Black, Luke Power
COL: Alan Didak
CAR: Chris Judd, Nick Stevens
HAW: Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell, Shane Crawford
KAN: Brent Harvey
PTA: Shaun Burgoyne, Chad Cornes
RIC: Nathan Foley, Brett Deledio
STK: Lenny Hayes, Luke Ball, Nick Dal Santo
SYD: Adam Goodes, Brett Kirk
WCE: Dean Cox, Daniel Kerr
WBD: Adam Cooney, Ryan Griffen, Scott West

Guys bolded IMO wouldnt get anywhere near it.

You are spot on Ripitup27, no doubt there would be many midfielders who are better than Kelly, Selwood and Corey but it they were to get into the cat's midfield, it would probably upset the balance or chemistry of the team.

I know what you're saying, but I think the players being mentioned could adapt and learn the Geelong game plan quite quickly.

If you want, take the view of the AA midfield (as in a genuine one, not the media thing).

You would have 3, maybe 4 cats in there.

How many do you take out (and replace) before it's all cats? I'd think the number would be close to 20.

Thompson, Black, Power?, Judd, Didak?, Hodge, Mitchell?, Bateman?, Sewell, Harvey, Cornes?, Kornes, Burgoyne?, Hayes?, Goodes, Kirk?, Kerr, Cooney, Foley?

There's 20 you could put arguments up for, and probably 10 it would be hard to argue against. No doubt I've missed some too.

There would be plenty of midfielders that could make the starting line up in Geelong's midfield. From Essendon Mark McVeigh is a clear option. In terms of skill Ling could easily be replaced by a more capable midfielder. Corey is easily expendable as are Selwood and Lling. Ablett would stay in the best 6 obviously as he is a brilliant player and Bartel can keep his position as he does his job exceptionally well even if his output is down from last year.

Plenty of midfielders that could slot easily into the Geelong team.

There is no way mark mcveigh is anywhere near cameron ling

McVeigh is a player from Essendon that would make your teams starting midfield. He is a much better midfielder then Chapman. Much better player actually.
As a unit Geelong's midfield is highly impressive but if you wanted to bring in better players you could replace all of them except for Ablett.

You would have to be the most stupid, ignorant, arrogant essendon supporter i have ever heard of. Mcveigh is a pretty good player and has improved out of sight.

But lets be realistic he is not fit to tie chapmans shoe laces

Perhaps the question is better phrased as, What Geelong midfielders would NOT walk into any other team's midfield?

It's fairly obvious that anyone could find room to accomodate Brent Harvey, Cooney et al if they had to.

May I quote you:

You would have to be the most stupid, ignorant, arrogant Geelong supporter i have ever heard of. Mcveigh is a pretty good player and has improved out of sight.

Whilst McVeigh's a massive twat, he is more versatile.

Both are very good players.
