My point is the gentleman was making a comparison between the two codes in a very general way.... so I'm asking for some comparisons from him.

Here in Australia. I don't know WTF is happening in the land of the Pom has got to do with anything

If you haven't heard ... the money flowing into the NRL is at an all time high and the comp is expanding.

I never said anything about cash flow, if you're going to respond to my post, respond to the subject I'm speaking of "West Tigers small crowd attendance in such a large stadium" = embarrassing

Two Sydney clubs Sydney Roosters v Canterbury Bulldogs drew a massive 8,000 people to their game at Aussie Stadium recently.

Imagine the uproar if two Vic Clubs got 8,000 to a game at the similar sized Docklands!!

There was an uproar about the 25 000 you guys got on the weekend. In NRL terms, 25 000 crowd would have been beyond their wildest dreams.

Yes, two out of final contention teams got a poor crowd to a meanigless game.

One of your finals got less than 25,000 last week.

How about we compare the Wests crowd on Friday to that?? ( i.e one of many local teams in one city, playing an interstate team)>

Half the Wests crowd will be on free tickets. Anyway I am sure the Swans will be delighted to be at the SCG and so am I as I can walk there.

True... but he was talking in a general sense.... I guess when he talked generally about rugby league.. i realised RL is played at pro/semi-pro level in atleast 5 countries so i responded with some RL examples from the UK.

This code has already sold over 10,000 tickets to the challenge cup final at Wembley stadium one year from now... and in the UK it has gone from 32,175 players in 2002 to 126,064 players in 2005. Says a lot about the RL code doesn't it?

How is your "code" going in the UK? says a lot about that code doesn't it?
Is that bigger growth than darts or rabbit hunting on horses with dogs? They invented rugby god knows how many centuries ago and now RL gets some action. Great work. At that rate in 200 years they'll have more RL players than Tasmania will have netballers. Frigtening stuff. RL is on the march. Where can we run to hide!

No! I think you are completely wrong. He was referring specifically to the RL crowds here, in Australia.

Go back, re-read and then I will be waiting here for your apology.

Your slagging off RL in the UK?! How is australian rules footballs progress there?

Don't be rude... we all know you'll wait forever for aussie rules to progress in the UK... no need to point it out.

Who gives a f*** about the UK?

You seem to think it is of some importance......believe me, it's not.

And I'm still waiting for my apology or are you incapable of simple comprehension.

Every potential market is important.... unless you think your product is genuinely soooo bad it won't get anywhere outside of its provincial status.

Our product has survived just fine for over 100 years in it's "provincial status" so I see no reason to change it now.

But if your product is struggling along and you see overseas expansion as your only way to survive then expand away, sunshine.

Does league have this sort of participation around the world?
Thanks for the links. Interesting.

Yes.. over 100,000 players in UK alone and over 300,0000 in Oz.. many in France, PNG and NZ also... hell even glasgow has more school kids playing RL than rugby union nowadays.

RL has pro-teams in NZ, Oz, France, UK ...places where it is a long established sport with great histories and traditions........ it is also semi-pro in PNG and they'll be playing the Australian PMsXIII later this year.

In recent history..Crowds of around 20,000 have been recorded for rl games in Tripoli and moscow... recently 8000 watched georgia play Serbia in Georgia and crowds of 10,000 have turned up for this years SP Cup in PNG. The South African comp has just started up also.... it is played at a small scale in quite few other countries also..

It's all going quite well at the moment.

Why do you ask?

Fine....AFL will end up like Canadian football.

RL is not stuggling in Oz... this year is one of its best and all the important stats are up. It's expanding overseas because people overseas want it... France is in the super league soon and the russian teams still play in the UK challenge cup... you know the comp that just had its final in front of over 70,000 fans in Cardiff.

Problem is that it's not travelling all that well here.

You know that country where we live. Perhaps you should move and bask in RL's glory in the UK .We won't be troubled by you any more and you won't have to suffer this "provincial" sport .

Aust. Rules is a uniquely Australian game. Whether it flies o/s is not relevant. Whatever RL does in the UK or in Botswana it can't ever be a major force. It can't even get a decent crowd week in week out to its world's strongest market in NSW.
