I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

I think this is pretty close to what West Coast would accept tbh. The sticking point is the first pick needs to be GCS first and not Freo’s.

Would GCS trade back a place, pocket, Melbournes 2nd. They could still trade 6 for points with Bulldogs or another club.

That would guarantee one of McKercher or Duursma are there (assuming that North take Curtin and either North/Hawks take Watson).

So we’d be trading Reid for something like:

Pick 4 Duursma/McKercher
Pick 15 Tholstrup
Pick 24 Moir

Melbourne Future 1st ???

We’d also have our pick 19 (let’s say Hardeman).

So essentially 4 picks inside 25 at the draft.

Send 55+57 back to Melbourne.

Use 34/38 and future future 3rd to help trade in: Brockman, Robertson, Sweet/Flynn/Bryan.

I one off season that means bringing in McKercher/Duursma, Tholstrup Moir, Hardeman, Brockman, Robertson and a bargain first ruck.

That’s an incredible haul and would really support the transition of our list.

Many people wouldn’t like that trade, but it’s a lot closer to the mark than many would admit to and is actually very helpful for our rebuild.

We're going to be towards the bottom for the next 2/3 years our issue is quality not quantity.

Pick 1 for pick 4 & 2 picks in the teens???
lucious lyon wtf GIF

3 top 10 picks or f**k off!

You keep talking about quality over quantity as if Harley is the only quality prospect in this draft.

It’s not a case of Harley Reid or bust.

One player doesn’t make a premiership list. In case you didn’t notice, West. Coast has list needs across the ground they need to address.

That's a really poor outcome for us.

In what way? It allows us to get one of the players we rate highly, and also support bringing in elite talent.

In my view you can do a lot more with pick 4, 15, 19, 24 and future first then you can with pick 1.

I’m not sure the gap between Reid and everyone else is so big that he is worth more than McKercher, Tholstrup, Moir and future first combined.

GWS paid pick 3, pick12 and Collingwood’s future 2nd for pick 1 last year.

I’m afraid that people have been conditioned to think we’re getting 3 top 10 picks for pick 1 and have been conditioned for an outcome that was never going to happen, and never will.

Not as helpful as Reid

We don't need to ****ing address it all in one draft haul. We have next year top 3 pick unless you want to split it and catch them all like you are suggesting us doing it this year and every year.

Tholstrup you got to be shifting me.

Why don't we trade out pick 1 for all WA players

Curtain
Tholstrup
Mitchell Edwards
Hall

Got to catch them all.

Who's next below Duursma? I think pick 4 gets us that player or Duursma.

Pick 1 - WCE - Reid
Pick 2 - NME - Curtin
Pick 3 - NME - McKercher
Pick 4 - HAW - Duursma
Pick 5 - GCS -

Melbourne and Hawthorn are also linked to Watson and many think North will take him at 3 or Hawks will at 4 (losing Brockman, chasing Ryan, Breust retiring, Wingard injured).

To put it in perspective if Dev were to head in the drart this year he would be rated 12-18 that's being pessimetic

If this is how you respond to a hypothetical trade being worked through in terms of what players may materialise out of it, I can’t wait for the trade period to begin.

Melbourne is confident of a trade for a reason.

Also very interesting that Gary Lyon seemed very upset we no longer held pick 1 last week. I take it he was confident of potentially trading for it if we had it.

I think you’re going to be in for a rude awakening come trade period.

I can't think of any sensible reason not to take Reid, he's not a sure thing any more than Scully, Jack Watts, Kruuzer or any of the other 1st pick fapfests were, but his numbers and highlights stack up.

For me the going rate to trade pick 1 would be to two top 5 picks- if a vic team were sufficiently caught up in the hype to offer two top 5s for pick 1 and our second rounder (so 19) you'd do that every day of the week, the odds of finding a gem are objectively better with two top 5 picks than #1 and #19.

Assuming noone offers that, just keep it simple and draft the consensus best player. Reid/Ginbey/Hewett could be a really great onball group with a good combination of power, size and skill.

Moir is projecting to be nothing

Tholstrup is no certainty

So we’re giving up Reid for Duursma or McKercher

Yuk

Last year pick 2 was traded for two outstanding local talents, that wouldn’t be happening this year.
Why are Melbourne so keen?

Because Harley Reid is head and shoulders above the rest of the pack.

No need to overthink this.

2023 Pick 1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2022 Pick 1
So I don't think it's a realistic comparison lol.
Hopefully the club isn't dumb enough to do a deal like this (but I'm not confident).

Yeah because it was in north melbournes interest to trade it last year and also there was no consenus number 1 as there is this year. Reid is in far higher demand than anyone from last years draft. We hold the cards here, so unless its heavily in our favour why is anyone even considering trading pick 1?

F****n vomit if the club trades out pick 1 to Melbourne for a handful beans.

G.Lyon is already nauseating to the extreme - it would be intolerable to see him being so smug should we gift-wrap him Reid.

They could offer f***** x5 top 10 picks and I'd still tell them to cram it.

This draft is shallow on elite potential. Outside the top 5 is little different to picking at 25.

Splitting the pick this year will end up with a rebuild that plays out in the same manner as Fremantle's - plenty of good role players and supporting cast, but lacking in the kind of elite quality that wins big moments in big matches.

Football is increasingly becoming a game where being able to win one-on-one contests is decisive to final outcomes. The best one-on-one player in the entire draft pool is H.Reid by the length of the drive from Melbourne to Tongala.

Just take the pick to the bank and the best available - which is Reid.

Even without splitting, the club is going to have at further x3 other picks inside the top 40, which is plenty of opportunity to stock up on depth.

It's time to add the quality to this build.

Yep. Imagine it:

Worst year on record, a #1 pick, who' head and shoulders above the rest, that's been hyped for 2 years, that's happy to move west and we throw it away to ensure we get 2 of Tholstrup and Moir....

Nightmare stuff.
