I hate that we call it football because it means we can’t give the game to anyone overseas. The idea of football exists and it’s an international sport. “Na, na mate, this is AUSTRALIAN rules football” is not a marketable concept on an individual and definitely not a corporate level. It’s friggen dumb.

The only reason we don’t have a name is because lads were too busy thinking up a bloody excellent sport to spend time thinking of an excellent name for it. We have that luxury now and we should do it justice and give this sport a name.

It’s marketed as AFL everywhere north of the Murray.

When I lived in Queensland that’s how it was referred to despite my cries to people that you don’t go down the local hoop and play some NBA or have a game of touch NRL in the backyard

The coaches are trolling the AFL...... just after the AFL announced that there would be rule changes introduced at the end of the year the coaches have suddenly started playing 6-6-6 line ups creating fast and high scoring games....wtf???

It's disgusting that this is true. You don't play a game of FIFA or ICC. It's Aussie Rules, and those who play IN the AFL still play Aussie Rules. Otherwise, do they play AFL in the SANFL? I'm sure the AFL wouldn't mind that, sadly - they'd like to be able to say they play AFL in the AFL-SA Premiership. [/rant]

It's not right but can see why the AFL does it. It's like people calling paracetamol tablets panadols or plaster strips band-aids
That happens naturally. Brands don't and shouldn't encourage or facilitate it by doing things like "AFL-Vic" and "AFL-Qld". These are organisations in their own right, as much as they somewhat rely on the AFL for direction and funding, and are feeders for the AFL. It's just one of a number of ways the AFL have overstepped their mark as the de-facto governing body of the sport.

Agree with your sentiments but what would you refer it as? Having lived in QLD the majority of my life, most QLDers (the deadshits anyway) refer to it as Gayfl or aerial ping pong.

I believe that these law of the game commitees set up by Hocking will be self fulfilling prophecies.

They will cause change for changes sake, and they will ultimately hurt the game not help it.

The game is fine, please leave it alone.

I want Gerald Wheatley to GAGF !

Singing the team song is overrated.

Most players probably hate that they have to do it after every win.
Did you ever play senior footy? I mean, are you basing it on anything or just a feel? Singing the song after the win was always a highlight when I played.

And Malcolm Blight.

It's all about ego.

What i'd refer to it is its proper title.

Australian Football.

After the boundary line is moved in at Kardinia Park, I hope and looked forward to a player getting cut from the LED advertising boards.

What will they do then? move in the boundary line further again? Why can't they just put up some clear perspex now...... tail wagging the dog!

Its an odd thing to hope for.
