What would a Dutton Liberal leadership mean for the Liberals and the country?

There was a big difference in 2010/2013 in that Labor was bashing itself to pieces internally and Abbott was seen as effective against Gillard so given full tilt to beat her in 2013.

Albo is starting to look a lot like 2009 Kevin Rudd it has to be said. But I don't think there's anywhere near the same appetite to knife him the way that story played out. So if he wins, even if in minority, in 2025.... it's hard to see how the LNP would presume Dutton could move the needle even further by 2028 than where he already has it.

Nothing like Rudd except the nicknames opponents make up

He's the muppet who wrote the book about Qantas and claimed Albo had a direct line to Alan Joyce to arrange flight upgrades.
Doesn't have a vested interest trying to dig up some dirt now would he?, where's the scrutiny on his agenda? What does he get out of this a spot on the backbench?. You can guarantee if he was a Labor supporter the media would be digging through his past to discredit him. Were just supposed to take his word for it apparently.

Maybe not in the detail.

But a first-year Labor PM after a long run of Libs... struggling to demonstrate a significant shift to progressivism... undercut by a largely global financial problem that has made living hard for the average punter... being sold as out-of-touch with everyday Australians... getting caught up in controversies real or contrived but convincing to the unengaged voter... with an unpolular opposition leader but not able to pull poll numbers clearly ahead either in terms of personal approval or overall 2PP...

Even if you only pick half those parallels, the scenario stacks up as similar.

I don't think knifing Rudd actually helped ALP in the lead up to 2010 I think Rudd could've got the same minority government result. So I think Albo can do the same.

So whether Abbott would've survived had Rudd stayed on is theoretical, but whether that scenario plays out and Dutton gets another crack remains to be seen.
