What would a Dutton Liberal leadership mean for the Liberals and the country?

Budget surpluses are the biggest load of shit. It’s creative accounting at its finest.
All people care about is cost of living.

Despite apparently electricity prices coming down ours hasn’t moved, a regular grocery shop for a family of 5 is somewhere between $300-$350 per week. Insurance premiums are rising. Don’t seem to be getting much relief anywhere. But govt budget is in surplus?? Woopty Doo.

Conservatives - State Victoria budget crisis ….
- Federal Government surplus irrelevant

Do you want the government to regulate private businesses and set prices???

Dutton has the election in the bag. Even if Albo gave every Australian $10,000 for COL relief, he'd still get voted out. He's going to cost Labor the election.
Dutton has a lot of work to do to actually win. They need to pick up tons of seats including teal seats without losing any. It isn't going to be easy by any stretch.

I admit I’m not a psephologist, but I can’t help suspecting this narrative that Dutton has put himself in a winning position is a bit of a media confection.

People are forgetting the comprehensive shellacking the electorate handed out to the Coalition in 2022.

The usual electoral calculus was completely shattered when seats were lost which had never been anything except Liberal since the creation of those seats many decades ago.

These were the seats that previously had automatically been counted in the Coalition’s result. All of a sudden, this would no longer be the case.

Many of them went to Teals and I see little evidence of any sort of backlash against particular sitting Teals. I think most of them are safe for at least one more electoral term. And there’s a strong case at least a couple more previously safe Lib seats like Bradfield will follow suit this time around and do the unthinkable.

I know the current narrative is that Dutton has turned his sights on Labor-held seats on the urban fringes, but gee, he’ll have to be picking up a helluva lot of them, as you say, specially if he’s losing further seats elsewhere to Teal candidates.

Happy to have the calculus explained to me, but right now a part of me is very suspicious there’s a fair element of media beat-up in all of this talk of Dutton winning.

Is Dutton the ‘saviour’ of Australia?
If you want Australia to be the sort of place where we point and laugh at drowning babies then Dutton is definitely your man.

Very few of these problems started on Albos watch, yet Dutton seeks to call them labor problems.

So will we see any detail beyond motherhood statements?
It almost sounds like leaving an abusive partner, having financial struggles associated with leaving, and returming to the abuser due to the struggles. Except kicking out the LNP hasn't caused any issues - it's just that you can't fix a broken country in three years.

This from a mod?
Why not? He's a spiteful man whose routinely considered one of the worst minister's in any portfolio that's had the misfortune to have him at the helm, Australia would be a much diminished country with him leading it.
