You probably are guessing. It’s been a policy to reduce consultants and re tool the PS. It’s smart and well overdue

When you take a package it’s usually 2-3 years before reemployment allowed.

Unless a razor gang has stuffed up and special cases to maintain function are in play
It's a smart policy but a lot of (ex aps or military) consultants are being protected by mates who are even moving aps aside so they can say their consultant mate is essential.

How to defend our country in these precarious times

a) rile up our geographically closest super power (and most important trading partner)

b) cosy up (further) to the least predictable super power that is currently showing no regard for its traditional allies.
C) stoke the flames racial/gender etc tension at every chance

And deporting them without proper judicial process makes it even more egregious.

From what I’ve read (and admittedly I’ve only skimmed what I’ve read) the constitutional change that Dutton wants is the right to bypass a judicial process before stripping someone of their citizenship, leaving my such a decision to the sole (and opaque) discretion of a government minister. We already have some of that when it comes to visa decisions. To have it apply to loss of citizenship would be scary indeed.

The only time I think it might be justified to strip someone of citizenship is if they’ve fought for a foreign country against Australia.
The scare campaign would be easy to write: 'Dutton wants the power for a politician to deport you and your family without a trial, becoming a dictator.'

Just rewind the binjun xie story where as immigration and everything else supremo he failed to stop the sex traffic ring set up, which labor addressed using existing legislation.

Maybe sex trafficking is secretly OK with the religious right?

The handling of Cyclone Alfred is an example of why you should not cut the public service. It serves the public, like the Bureau of Meteorology, the National Emergency Management Agency (created in 2022 after shambolic handling of previous disasters) and Centrelink, which gets one-off payments of $1,000 out the door quickly to disaster victims.

The religious right has an awfully high concentration of sex offenders per capita (hello Catholic Church and Hillsong).

Australia rejected a republic because we didn't didn't think a politician should choose the head of state. Now Dutton wants the power to choose who can live here.

He certainly did - again with the derogatory barbs (not mature enough, limp wristed etc)

They behave exactly like schoolyard bullies

Labor are going to have a field day this election campaign.

Dutton and the Liberals have already said they will not announce where the government spending cuts will happen until after the election. Now they don't want to talk about nuclear anymore. They have no viable answers on the housing crisis or cost of living. They literally have nothing.

What are they going to talk about? What is their alternative?

And they associated with the least likeable characters in Australia, Gina, Palmer, Dutton himself.

By any standard Morrison is the worst PM Australia has ever had, and Morrison only got the job because even the Liberals could not stomach Dutton.
This could be like the 2019 federal election again but in reverse.

In the 2019 federal election, liberal or coalition were in power and was struggling.

Labor had some momentum then choked right before the election.

Leading up to this 2025 election , liberals looked like a sure bet at the start of this year.

I won't be shocked if Dutton and the coalition choke and drop the ball and lose this election like Labor did in 2019

Regulation fees for plumbers are a tax on people who get plumbing work. Both are also just cases of an user pays industry based regulation system. Part of our advantage in agriculture is our island status.

A container levy is a tax on virtually everything that is imported… including plumbers tape.

I just don’t see how someone with a half a brain who voted against the Morrison government would flip their vote back to the LNP lead Dutton…

Liberal have two very big problems and I am not sure how they overcome them. I think you are right with the 2019 comparison.
  1. Dutton and the Liberals (sort of) "policies" are way too big. Nuclear is just politically dumb. Aligning so strongly with Israel is frankly bewildering. Aligning so strongly with the USA is equally curious - particularly given how much their last government damaged Australian exports.
  2. Dutton - like Shorten - does not have the charisma to pull any of this off.
