I'm in a job right now that is really sucking.i want to leave and am close to resigning without a new job ligned up.I've tried valiantly to find new work before quitting.I'm doing really huge hours but the time i spent at the workplace is boring and is getting me down. The people are bitchy and nasty and the company is well known company with tons of power but treat their staff like shite. Should I just cut my losses and hope a job comes up.(yeah yeha I know people are losing their jobs but this job really isn't worth worrying about when you won't get promoted unless you're a pet and they don't cater to your needs. And you grow stale and bored in it.

no... I can't go into details.Its a well known company.(aren't they all)

lets just say things are pretty bad morale wise and I can't take a minute longer there.

I meant to alos write that I am actually doing pitiful hours not huge hours.

Stupid to quit your job in this economic environment.

If you really must quit then take a couple of sick days to assess the lay of the land in your particular industy.

Competition for work in specific industries will be tough for quite some time, so unless you have extraordinary skills or another job already lined up... I'd stay put.

Having said that I'd still be actively working with a recruitment firm to try and find alternative employment. Even if it takes 6-12 months at least the knowledge you are actively looking can benefit you psychologically.

I really do feel for you.:(

Having encountered similarly tough times, may I suggest explore

1) internal transfer could be just the immediate environment thats like that.
2) take sick leave if your not well, if you can take a week off that would be 9 days straight to clear your head.
3) start laying the foundation for a new job, get your CV, referee's etc in order now
4) is it your immediate boss thats causing you grief see if you can talk to someone in HR.
5) dont quit

Get this ...have applied to be transferred to another branch(so to speak) and wasn't even given an interview on several atempts.I'm not really the suck up type.I just never have been.

Have applied for amany many jobs leading up to this absolute despair.Have been to few interviews or more and somehow I just don't get the job or it just sort of never happens.

No Its hard to explian there is many tiers of management and just plain staff that have knives out for you.lousy pay as well when you know in other industries they are getting so much more than you. The worst rate per hour!

I have no sick leave off.yeha I know have taken quite a few days off.

Seriously I've given it my all to find an out.Its almost like I couldn't get some of the jobs I went for because I couldn't start straight away.I had to give notice of at least a week. But you kind of need to be in a job to get another job it doesn't make any sense. Its really difficult

1. Look for new jobs outside the company.
2. Look for jobs inside the company.
3. If finding no luck for over a period of time - consider contracting rather than the comfort of full time job.
4. Just quit - I've seen couple of ppl lose their partners/wives coz the job was taking too much of their time (or well atleast contributed in my opinion).

I'll speak from personal experience - 2006 I wanted to find a new role - I started looking on & off - It got to a shameless point where I was just applying to any job internal or external left right & centre (within reason / closish range of my skills). I had set myself a date - after which I'll quit irrespectively and go into the contracting field.

Luckily in 2008, I managed an internal transfer to a completely different role in the same company. Now, I am working at the same company - much more happier with my role and co-workers and general environment and my boss is quite good as well. Its like a totally different alternate world from my old role....

Time to change? Perhaps search outside the area where you are living and move to another place?

just quit.

If you can afford not to have an income then quit, its not worth the stress.

Vulture, I love you avatar, I was watching a bit of Alan Partridge last night. Knowing me knowing you, Ahha!

timetochange08 - I am in a similar situation myself. I probably haven't got to the same extreme yet but I am in the ballpark.

As hard as it is, don't quit. You might be looking for another position for 6-12 months in this climate. If you can go without an income for a while, they do it but I doubt there are many who have that luck.

I am looking for positions and it is hard but you might need to compromise. Instead of just full time position, you might need to temp or go part-time/casual for a couple of months. You might also need to look outside the square at another industry all together. It might not be a long term decision (unless you really like the change) but it will give you time to find another position that is more suited to you.

While quitting now would be a huge relief, you have to stick it out a little while until you find something else.

I wouldnt say my job is sucking, but I have been keeping one eye open for a new job. I wouldnt quit before I had one, its essential to have a money suply coming in, especially at this time of year. My main motivation for staying is that I just love working with the people there, once Im there it seems more like socialising time than working...the job is so repetitive that you dont even have to think about it.

i don't know what your situation is but maybe take this time to go do some travelling. of course you'd need to have money saved up and no dependants - kids, mortgages etc,.

I tell ya, I could be posting stuff like "I hope all you ****ers die a horrible death", and people will still be commenting on how much they love the avatar! I love it too!
