I can't think like that!

08 is our first flag in 17 years after our most legendary era. All the excitement that came with it.

Then we fail to make the finals in 09- maybe it was because we had injuries and surguries, our new golden era will surely be back on track next year.

Then we fail to back it up in 10, basically now I'm thinking stuff footy, we were lucky to get one early and now we've blown our chance. Dreams of a new golden era dashed.

Then we make the prelim in 11, by that stage we're the underdogs again with the public on our side. We almost pull off a miracle but can't quite get over the line... Perhaps there's hope...

Then we totally dominate in 12, finally this is our year to show how mighty we are, the buildup since 04 will give us our 2nd flag. We just scrape through in the prelim, there are a few worrying signs, but I'm sure next week we'll be right. Then Jeff jumps in with some cocky remark. And then we lose. Failure. The best chance we'll ever get. Swans 100% deserve the win. Shattered. Destroyed.

I reckon we might 10 peat after that!

But if I need to answer whether beating the handbaggers is more important than 4-peating, I'll go with beating the handbaggers (with a flag every decade thrown in!)

Wow, the consensus is overwhelming. I'm somewhat surprised.

The 4-peat would be sweet, but as it stands the 3-peat is plenty sweet enough and '08 is etched in my memory as my equal favourite Hawthorn moment of all time (with '89, attended both). So I'm with the majority here.

Awesome thread. I've got a wanky answer. The pain of 12 made 13 and 14 awesome. 08 and the Catter pledge/Kennett curse made the 13 prelim SO awesome. The loss in 12 made Buddy's defection more painful which in turn made the massacre of 14 ken awesome.
