As Mattys so considerately reported the other day the NAB cup is less than a month away.

Making it well and truly time for some discussion on what we'd like to see when the NAB cup rolls round.

So, what would you like to see in the NAB Cup?

Chris Tarrant for starters.

Some of the next tier of players trying to stake their claims as seniors i.e. Josh Thomas, Luke Rounds, Lachlan Keeffe etc.

Brad Dick to return.

Cameron Wood as #1 ruck- see how he goes in the deep end and if he has made any progress.

Obviously no injuries is the big one.

Lastly, just some footy again.

None of our most important 18 playing (D.Jolly, T.Cloke, L.Ball, A.Didak, D.Swan, S.Pendlebury, N.Maxwell, H.O'Brien, C.Dawes, B.Reid, N.Brown, L.Brown, C.Tarrant, H.Shaw, S.Wellingham, S.Sidebottom, D.Beams and B.Dick).

Play the rest.

No injuries for a start!

Anyone with question marks over their head about whether they'll get a game and guys needing some practice to get a game/s. I'd like to see most of the spine play in a game, and in the last game or two to see close to the round 1 side playing together.

It'll be interesting to see Krak and Tarrant play also. I don't think you can play too many new kids at once either, because you really want to see the team gelling together in preparation for round 1. So that means probably resting 6 or so players each week.

i would love to see krak tarrant rounds and wood, also would love to see davis to play in a sweeping defensive role

Basically all you are looking for in the current format is a good showing from the younger players, and to see how much some of our young senior players have improved over summer.

Expect Dayne Beams to tear the season apart, and it might start in the pre season, and I can't wait to see Josh Thomas, Rounds, Keefe and Young in the seniors, even if it is a mickey mouse cup game.

Don't be shocked if Fasolo plays either, he is almost ready to go, and his body is strong enough to put up a good showing at senior level.

And then you have Taz and Krak, 2 players who straight away improve us, which is a great effort by the club after winning a flag.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind beating Carlton, just because they are Carlton.:)

As has been mentioned previously I'd like to see Wood play a majority of games with a mix between Wood playing as first ruck and Jolly in L Brown role. Wood playing first ruck and L Brown playing his role and Jolly playing first ruck and Wood playing the L Brown role. Give Wood plenty of time in the seniors whilst still giving our first choice rucks a decent pre-season hit out.

I'd like to see McCarthy, J Thomas, Rounds and Young all given a decent hit out. They are probably currently the next in line for seniors spots along with Dick (who I don't want risked in the NAB) and it will be a good chance to give them a good run at a level probably a notch higher then they are used too.

Leon Davis given a good stint in the midfield, whether he plays there in 2011 or not it's a good chance to get his confidence up early in the season.

Krakour and Tarrant always good to see the fresh faces in their new colours.

1. Beating Carlton by one point for their false hope to continue.

2. All the kids getting decent match time

3. Buckley to coach

4. Krak and Leon to carve up the middle

5. Judd losing a testicle

I'd rather we smashed the Blues by plenty so they don't advance to the next round (2 best losers make it to the next round) or them losing to Richmond.

That was my first thought, but would rather them going into the game thinking that they have a chance and talking themselves up and then smack them in the season proper... and for D. Swan to pick up 3 Brownlow votes

I'd like to see the NAB cup as a trial for replacements within our structure where we see we are thin in depth.

The Wood / Jolly idea is the most obvious. It covers two eventualities, the loss of Brown and the loss of Jolly as number one ruck. It's important we have a ready to go alternative in the event of injuries to either of these two.

I would like to see Beams played as a centre bounce midfielder as opposed to his current half forward flank role. If any of Swan, Pendles or Ball were to miss through injury he'd be the first off the bat. Midfield time for any of Thomas, McCarthy or Blair is an idea for the same reason.

Rounds needs to be used as a forward - even more importantly with Macaffers obvious injury concerns. I think as a lead up type forward Rounds is the obvious structural replacement.

I'd like to see Tarrant used in defense in whatever way they intend on utilising him for the majority of the year. I see this as a third tall type but however they are planning on using him it is important that he gets as much exposure in this role as possible.

The Krak :)

I haven't seen Rounds do any lead-up forward work in his VFL games. He plays more as a midfielder / forward who follows the ball down and gets it to kick goals, rather than being a marking target.

For the lead up role, the back-ups would be Macaffer, Tarrant, even S Reed. I haven't seen Rounds do much lead up / marking work at all. He is only 181 cm by the way...

Why? He needs a run and he needs to test his shoulder. If his shoulder doesn't hold up it may as well happen in a pre season game.

I don't think we'll take it overly seriously. The game conditions do not reflect those of the season proper....and remember we've had much shorter time to prepare considering our season extended well into October. I think a few players will be on modified programs to get themselves right by Round 1.

There's not much for coaches to work on in terms of strategies etc because the games are shortened so much. I think we'll see some basic structures and a few kids getting a crack.

Really excited to see Krak and Taz go.
