What's everyone thinking of the new fixture?

I'm not liking the broadcast side of things
don't know if its the same for everyone and maybe not fully updated
1 free to air game first week
none the next
2 free to air
then none
I'm in Canberra and it might have picked up my location as it was 2 swans games and 1 gws game

Has concurrent and overlapping games been written into the MCG grand final contract until 2047? Insane stupidity. You have a captive TV audience and decide to run games at the same time

For some reason I’ve never been bothered by it until now.
2 Saturday night games on is normal yet it’s really bugging me suddenly.
Just spread them out.

Round 1 is full of blockbusters...

wtf can't they do this this at the start of the normal season...

also next year they need to work on not having games overlap....sot here is always something on and we and don't have to flick between games.

Wow, thats diabolical.

Having said that the only reason I have Foxtel is the footy. Got sick of never seeing AFL (let alone my team) on FTA in Sydney.

No FTA games for St Kilda yet teams that finished below us on the ladder like Sydney, Carlton and Melbourne all get some.

Of course the big Vic clubs like Collingwood and Richmond get well looked after with FTA coverage and people wonder why St Kilda is struggling financially.

Are they really blockbusters when no-one turns up to watch the game - lets be honest, it doesnt mean anything more than any other home & away game

Blockbusters are sellouts or 80,000+ at the MCG. There are no 'blockbusters' in round 2.

And i dont see the issue with overlapping games - if one is boring then watch the other one (presuming neither involve your team). If you have such a boring life that you need to watch all 9 games then stiff shit.

Again the AFL when they get a chance doing whats best for them and their corporate sponsors rather than the clubs/fans. Any chance they get to make more $$$$ they will.

Its when shit hits the fan you see everyone's true colours (more so than you normally do with the AFL - which is always about $$$)

Agree. I love having two going at similar times so you can flick between. the Saturday arvo games at 1:45pm and 2:10pm in a normal round used to be great in terms of channel surfing.

Yep feel for ya m8, but at least you are getting SOME footy on TV even if its not your team, Im hanging for some footy, any game would do

Yep, what an absolute heckin'g kick in the teeth as a way to start an already tough season.

Although I agree with your point, Collingwood and Richmond are a pretty poor example to give. Both teams have played in a GF and Prelim in the last two years, hardly surprising they're on FTA.

Normally the TV stations only have a heavy hand on the fixture, now they will have near complete control. AFL needs to make sure they are happy for the next broadcast deal as it is more vital than ever for the game in the future. And with everyone playing each other once no matter what, short breaks not being as significant thanks to shortened quarters, and no attending fans to worry about, it's probably OK, as long as it only applies to this year.

Read ...I said "why cant they do this at the start of a normal season"..i.e..with crowds..

overlapping has nothing to do with a boring life...stfu... its there for people that choose to watch every game

Then watch it on replay - watching all nine games shows you have no life - football nuffie its called - plenty of them out there

you would of hated the 70’s

All games played on the same day at the same time. Switching between radio channels and if unlucky your team is on the station which constantly gets interrupted by horse racing!!!!

Only 3 games replay featured on TV later in the evening. And just a quarter from each game.

Any snippets of footage from the other games could be seen on the Sunday program World of Sport. And the camera is very closed to the ground with grainy footage and just some weird kind of crowd noise.

Terrible really,,, but Gawd I miss those days!
