Re: What's the last movie you saw?

I also think Shutter Island was a bit too un-new, though it gets a passing grade.

And I also agree Di Caprio is a very very good actor. Some of his early stuff really set the scene for me (Gilbert Grape, Basketball Diaries).

I'm in the camp who prefers Leo when he was a young actor.

This Boy's Life, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Basketball Diaries. He was on a massive roll here with unbelievable performances.

His recent performances while solid haven't really impressed me all that much.

Finally saw Breathless (1960) really didn't do it for me at all. I can see how at the time it may have been original and risque but compared with Traffaut's (who also wrote the script for Breathless) suberb film of the same year, Shoot the Piano Player;which I saw a couple of years back, it falls short. My score 5/10

Watched "The Last Picture Show" again tonight

It's still a very strong movie with some fragile characters and several top notch performances

Paul, the one with Simon Pegg and the Alien. It had it's moments, one of those movies that you either like or don't like, I liked it.

District 9

Not totally original, but new enough to hold the interest.

The Nigerians were great and who would not love alien Prawns?

It was very original. Even down to the fact that we don't see many movies from south africa so it's in it's own unique genre, the south african genre. I liked it, thought the humour was excellent (and very unique).

Great film, a bit too violent for my tastes but very original. :thumbsu:

"hard pill" - a film about a cure for homosexuality in the form of a pill. I'm not quite sure the intended message of this film but it failed on every count. Every angle i try and look at this film from makes it seem poorly executed and shallow.

Re: What's the last movie you saw?

Lincoln Lawyer - its not bad for a movie staring Matthew Mconnahay (or however you spell it)

It owed plenty to Alien Nation, so the "very original" comment does not quite ring true.

Still, I enjoyed the movie, and love prawns...;)

Re: What's the last movie you saw?

Are you saying it out right copied alien nation? I don't know, haven't seen it. If Alien Nation was a mocumentary about aliens being trapped in Johannesburg then moved from inner city slums to suburbia slums (much like what happened to the blacks in District six, in cape town - there may even be a parallel in there somewhere), then yes, what a disgraceful copy.

The film was original and great. Can't wait for more films from south africa. I'm very hopeful. :thumbsu:

Humboldt county - 9/10 - loved it

Re: What's the last movie you saw?

Assassination Games - 6/10
The fist movie with jean Claude Van Damme I have seen since Until Death, this was ok at best. He plays some of the easiest characters at his oldish age and his acting is very basic in most movies he stars. He's the action hero with no emotion. It's quite old.

Nah he just means the whole alien subclass thing, I'd say.

You tell her Mobs, I don't have the patience.
