Killer Elite - An Australian made action thriller with a pretty impressive cast of local and international stars such as Jason Stratham, Clive Owen, and Robert De Niro (of all people). It is suppossedly based on a true story for some revenge killings done as a result of UK SAS soldiers killing the sons of a Sheik in Oman in the 80's.

This film had all the potential for failure but it was in the end a very well written and executed action thriller. As good, if not better, than what we see come out of Hollywood. It was interesting to see an Aussie film production that took on Hollywood at what it does best.

worth a look 7/10

My daughter was in the studio next door, but somehow missed out on meeting De Niro. Shame.

The opening shootout in 'Killer Elite' was great, but the film sucked from that point on. What a terrible waste of a great cast.

I loved the part where Clive Owen hassles the skinheads in the pub!

Might give it a try. Was extremely disappointed with the original, found it a bit uneven (and I'm a massive Peckinpah fan)

Not a remake.

Not based on Peckinpah's earlier movie of the same name.

Producers even offered $500 to anyone who could come up with a better film title. True story.

Stage 3 - Winners & Losers?

Watchmen - Decent movie, fairly poor story, very good character portrayals. Comedian's character was pretty amazing, and the actor (I had never seen him before) had more presence than christmas. Overall I liked it. The line "I'm not locked in here with all of you, you're all locked in here with me." was my favourite moment.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, also in the losers. Ask your mum, sister girlfreind, mates stupid enough to watch greys anatomy, theyve all heard of him

No. Some Disney thing for Foxtel (Low key stuff)

Sherlock Holmes:

Who would have thought this to be worthy of a look.
I didn't at first, but half an hour in and the smarts kicked along to make for a very solid movie.
Ritchie did a very good job on this one. A surprising 7.5/10 from me. :thumbsu:

I love you Phillip Morris.

Not a movie I was too enthusiatic to be watching, but it's really good. Probably one of the best movies I saw in 2011, really enjoyed the turns it took and Jim Carrey was actually enjoyable to watch in a role for once.

The Breakfast Club

Very enjoyable and quintessentially eighties. It's always weird watching a movie that you know more about through pop-cultural references than watching the damn thing itself (i.e. Citizen Kane, 2001, etc.) but I found this movie very enjoyable, and much funnier than I anticipated.

Preachy at times, but what else could you expect from a 1980s American High-School drama? 7.5/10

Ok, luckily I don't ask them things anymore. :thumbsu:

I thought he was seriously good in this.

At the request of the Mrs we watched The Tourist. And it was woeful. We both picked the "twist" from the first scene where Jolie sits with Depp on the train to Venice.

To restore our faith in film making we then proceeded to watch several animated flicks that we have seen several times before but enjoyed watching again.
Up
Despicable Me
Wall E

BTW, Despicable Me 2 has been announced for release next year. Javier Bardem :thumbsu:

Smurfs (2011) - I grew up watching the Smurfs animated series, and was a little pesimistic heading into this, but I loved it, 8/10.

Priest - Another "Legion" like movie with Paul Bettany in it, not great, but watchable. 6/10.

Hangover II - Better then the original IMO, the crudeness helps, and the story moved a little better then the first one, I'd watch a third. 8/10.

Contagion - surprisingly good. I especially loved the Gwyneth Paltrow autopsy scene. 8/10
At that point I started giggling because all I could think of was a (generally irrelevant) moment from Family Ties :

Mallory : "It's like there's this little voice inside my head, saying ..."
Alex : "Boy, you can see for miles in here."

Good movie, Contagion.

Jude Law gave the best performance in this film I thought, was he wearing fake teeth? It looks like actually dipped his teeth in English tap water for about 10 weeks. He actually looked like his character in 'Road To Perdition'.

Gwyneth Paltrow might me the most annoying actress of all time.

The re-education of Macca part 6 ended up being another Hitchcock classic Rear Window. Enjoyed this much better than Psycho and found it an interesting look at society. Thought its major flaw was the fact that noone else saw Stewart watching them. Stewart was excellent in how he portrayed his peeping tom character. Grace Kelly was also excellent. And incredibly smoking hot.

Funny that as I could hardly watch him in Contagion. That character just didn't do it for me.

You're not kidding. What a doll.
Re. Stewart not being seen: Gave the movie the benefit of the doubt that the light was falling on the other side of the apartment block
