The Spy who Dumped me.
Action, violence, comedy and laughs rolled into one. Kate McKinnon is hilarious and Mila Kunis is damn damn damn damn!!!!!!
8/10

Kate is hot too doe

She is funny as hell, in the Kaitlin Olsen mould

Watched the last 45 of shotcaller today after seeing most of it last night. Holy shit that is ****ing brutal. Awesome movie. Reminded me of Felon for obvious reasons but it was a hell of a lot better and more carefully constructed.

Also watched Celda 211 which is a Spanish movie also about prison. I really enjoyed this one as well and it had some good twists and turns.

Shotcaller is the best new movie I've seen in a while however. I'm also a big fan of Jon Bernthal ever since his role in the movie the Accountant. I couldn't stand the cocky big nosed campaigner in Sicario and We Are you friends. But in the Accountant he was brilliant and in particular loved the Lemon Meringue Pie scene

Enjoyed his acting in Shotcaller once more.

Speaking of Bernthal, watched Sweet Virginia yesterday. An OK low-rent, small town thriller. 6/10

Also watched BlacKKKlansman last night.... jeez, that ending O_O Cinema was stunned. After a somewhat nonsensical feel throughout the movie, the ending just made it all very real. Full on. 8/10

The 2003 version of The Italian Job. I loved the original but can hardly remember it now.

This was good fun. Great action scenes. The original heist in Venice is fantastic, the revenge plot is good. The cast is mostly very good. Not sure that Jason Statham can actually act. The dialogue was often pretty average, but that wasn't the point of the film.

Good action flick

7.5/10

Saw BlacKkKlansman recently, got to say it was a bit of a let down.

I've never been a big Spike Lee fan but after all the great reviews I went in expecting Mississippi Burning crossed (pardon the pun) with Chappelle's Show.

It was billed as a powerful drama with a mix of comedy, it failed on both counts, one of those films that tries to do too much and ends up doing not enough.

There were some good acting performances though, in particular from Adam Driver and Topher Grace, but I reckon Denzel has his son covered as an actor.

I'd give it a 6/10 at best.

BlacKkKlansman - going to disagree with my friend above, I thought it was excellent. Perhaps advertised as more of a comedy than it actually is, it definitely had some funny moments highlighting the stupidity of these racists, but also didn't really shy away from also showing how horrific violent racism can be. I thought Denzel's son was fine, just given a role that wasn't particularly interesting (the protagonist is essentially a blank slate, the more interesting characters surround him). It also left me quite moved with some tears at the very end. Excellent film. **** (that's 4 stars, I realised the swear filter could sometimes make it look like I'm randomly cursing at the end of my review haha).

I had a problem with the ending too.

That real life footage of the Charlottesville riots just seemed tacked on and out of place with the rest of the film.

Spike Lee tried to make a link between what happened back in the 60s and 70s to what is happening today with Trump but did it in such a clumsy, heavy handed way that it undermined the powerful statement he was trying to make. Just felt like we were being lectured to like we were a bunch of dummies.

As another review of the film said, anyone going to see a film like this understands that racism is a bad thing, the real racists wouldn't even bother seeing it.

Just watched The Meg. Solid movie for what it is. Don't expect an academy award for it, but it was entertaining. Give it 6/10.

Really wanted to like this mainly to annoy my son who thinks I only like films like this to annoy him, but I was a bit disappointed . I read the book 20 years ago and the prologue was fantastic. Set in the Cretaceous period, a T Rex chases prey into the ocean and is taken down by a Megalodon. This was around the time of "Jurassic park" and I immediately thought how good this scene would be on film, but no, it isn't in it! So much money on screen and couldn't even include this brilliant scene which would have gone for maybe 5 minutes. Anyway ,yeah 6 outa 10 is about right.

The Polka King - A new Jack Black movie released on Netflix earlier this year based on a real life polka musician in Pennsylvania (via Poland) who swindled millions of dollars through a ponzi scheme setup through his seemingly endless charm. It's another of those Jack Black movies where reality is stranger than any screenwriter could've come up with (like Bernie from a few years back). Had some pretty funny moments throughout and the supporting roles (including Jackie Weaver) were all fantastic. Definitely worth a watch when you're at a loose end scrolling through the Netflix menus! 7/10

Watched Enemy last night with Jake Gyllenhaal (sp?), directed by Villenueve. Wow.... a lot to think about with this one. One of the strangest endings I can remember. Read up a little bit on it after watching which explained a few things but of all the theories I read, there are little details which don't fit. I think the main theory is correct but maybe I need to watch it again to see how the inconsistencies fit in.

Still, a pretty cool movie. 8/10

Yeah I still think about that film occasionally.

Not the best film, but interesting.

Mr Brooks
Mississippi Grind

Good movies. Costner is superb in Brooks and Reynolds elite in Grind. Some funny moments in both. Only seen the latter once before today, really enjoyed it.

Dead Pewl 2. You wouldn't have thought it, but it hit my right in the feels when RR was making his heartfelt deathbed speech. Almost teared up.

Good fun romp 8.5/10 would recommend

I agree with this.

You should spoiler the part about the ending, you've ruined the impact for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

That wasn't really a part of the actual film though, ie. it was separate to the plot/storyline of the film, and was shown after the film had ended.

Apparently the film had already been completed and then they decided to add that other stuff on in post production which is why I said it felt tacked on.

I've put some spoiler tags on that part of my post anyway though.
