Fantastic sci-fi movie. Best I've seen in a long time. Highly recommend. Not a single weakness in the movie.

[Extortion Threat]

Some movies I've recently watched:

Spirited Away (2001) - Amazing anime, I had no idea just how crazy the plot is to this. Funny & fantastical, endlessly inventive plus some memorable characters. Hard to find any flaws with this. 9.5/10

Solaris (1972) - Russian Sci-Fi classic from Tarkovsky. Not sure what it is exactly but Tarkovsky's movies that make them so good. On paper not a whole lot happens in over 2 & 1/2 hours but I was riveted from start to finish. 8/10

Tampopo (1985) - Hilarious Japanese movie about food. The main plot is about Tampopo, a widow who owns a struggling noodle shop and two truck drivers help her out to make the best noodles in town. There's also a bunch of vignettes involving food. Very funny and inventive. 9/10

Upgrade (2018) - This was great fun. Lots of action & humour plus a solid plot and a good ending. 7.5/10

Los Olvidados (1950) - I've seen quite a few Bunuel films and I've liked them all or found them amusing but none of them really grabbed me from the start like this one did. Not as surreal as his other movies (besides one very memorable scene) and very gritty in general. This & Viridiana are probably my favourite Bunuel films so far. 8/10

Cargo (2017) - Interesting take on zombie movies. Played out strictly as a drama I liked this mainly for the original idea & Martin Freeman's acting. Bit too slow going at times but there's some good idea's here and a strong effort for a debut film 6.5/10

Balibo (2009) - Interesting political thriller based off the true story of the Bailbo Five and the subsequent cover-up. Certainly a provocative film and an intense ride. 8.5/10

Just watched HEREDITARY (2018)

Was recommended this movie, told scariest movie ever. Yeah nah. It's a very slow burning thriller more than a horror story. Kind of like THE WITCH in that it's not actually scary at all, and just slow and slow burning, a layer of sinister to it.

Enjoyed it, but it was slow and slow burning and not scary, just sinister.

I enjoyed it but I laughed in the places that were supposed to be scary. It was well made and brought up a couple of notches from the standard horror movie by the excellent acting performances of the whole cast.

Big fan of horror movies and went on a binge download. Saw VHS and VHS 2 which involve an anthology of horror stories and a main story. Both had a few good stories with gore. Was ok.

I liked it. Saw the necklace on granny at the funeral and picked it pretty early but was a slight change of the genre and it worked well i thought. Definitely worth a look if into thrillers / horror

I go the other way, I’ll rate a terrible film highly if I enjoyed it. I think this has been discussed here before.

As long as some context is given with the rating I’m cool with however it’s done.

Enjoyability is subjective. Why you cant imo use it as part of rating. Instead focusing on objective things.

Well everything you’re rating is subjective, it’s your take on it. I could understand going “it’s brilliantly made but I hated it so 3-4” or “it’s terribly made but I loved it so 3-4” but how can you enjoy it if you’re saying it’s a straight up 0

I also enjoy dental visits. Enjoy pain. So keep that in mind.

For what it's worth, I rate based entirely on enjoyment. A 10/10 rating doesn't indicate that it's an objectively good film (e.g. Supertroopers got one from me) or even rewatchability (e.g. Schindler's List was brilliant, but I don't ever want to see it again).

Mother! - literally just watched this and am posting this in the throes of rage so might update in the am but this is the worst piece of self serving, arrogant, pretentious garbage parading as thoughtful cinema I have seen in a long time, maybe ever. Not even a wonderful turn from J-Laws worth sitting through this s**t for 0/10 and I cannot recommend highly enough to go see anything else at the cinema.

My rage has chilled this morning but I'm still standing with a 0/10 for Mother! and I cant recommend highly enough to not bother with it. In terms of positives, the first half is very well made, unnerving and uncomfortable with the way its filmed and the sound design. Unfortunately it completely and utterly loses the plot for the second half and buries itself under a thick layer of wank and horrible choices. Read a long winded pretentious rant from Darren where he talks about how the ideas came to him in a "fever dream" and that makes perfect sense of the second half. Don't get me wrong, the film doesn't make any sense, but how he came up with the garbage makes perfect sense.
