I think they will make more films.

So many decades and years would have passed from the end of war right up to the original film. would be great to see how the Apes evolved and how they ruled the Earth.

aye. so long as there is Ape and man, there will always be conflict.

War is endemic

I saw it yesterday- absolutely loved it. Was in the exact right mood for it (just wanted to watch something light/mindless and most of all fun)- and was also a godsend to get out of that ****ing gale that was blowing around Melbourne.

What a ride- loved the car chases, the music and did not expect it to be that funny either.

X-men Apocalypse
What an absolute mess of a movie. I loved First Class and DoFP but this was comically bad. A mess of a story, bad CGI, terrible dialogue.

3/10

Logan
The polar opposite of Apocalypse and possibly the best superhero movie I've ever seen. Gritty, violent, hard hitting and intense. Brilliant performances from Jackman and Stewart. A bit of a lame villain the only real knock on the movie.

9/10

Life
A good cast and nice (if cliched) premise. A reasonable sc-fi thriller that didn't quite fully capitalise on its potential. Entertaining regardless but ultimately forgettable.

6/10

Kong: Skull Island
I have to start off by saying this movie looks absolutely incredible. The visuals are simply stunning and some of the shots of Kong set against the setting sun or to a fiery background are just beautiful. The action is entertaining enough and the story is reasonable. Unfortunately a talented cast is left to wallow with some sloppy dialogue, disappointing characterisation and zero back story. Ultimately this film is a pass but could have been a bit better.

How Hollywood haven't picked up on making a movie about Nikola Tesla is astounding.

Maybe C.Nolan can take the reins, given he's sent a wink his way already.

Was featured in The Prestige, ironically directed by Nolan and played by none other than David Bowie

To The Bone - Lily Collins, Keanu Reeves.

Pretty raw look at a young woman suffering from Anorexia and tries to give some insight into the crippling condition. There was a storm of controversy around this Netflix release due to a feeling of it "glamourizing" or giving tips to people suffering from the condition and frankly that's a load of crap, at no point does this glamourize the condition and any tips this movie might give you are either already well known or could just be googled. Frankly I think "triggered" is the dumbest word my generation has come up with, we cant make challenging art anymore because it might upset some people? Frankly I think this sort of film is incredibly important to "trigger" discussions on stuff like anorexia.

Anyway, Collins and Reeves are great and an interesting cast of others keep the film grounded and stops it from straying into being too depressing, I found the reactions and emotions of the people around Lily Collins character, Ellen almost more interesting than herself, perhaps as someone who has no real exposure to anyone with an eating disorder and as someone who simply cant understand it. Didn't like the ending perhaps the only part of the film that felt contrived to me. Still a film I'm glad was made and I'm glad I watched 7/10.

The Killing (1956) - Satisfying heist film. Just about flawless, probably my favourite Kubrick movie I've seen so far. Great dialogue, engaging from start to finish, brisk pacing & plenty of action, can't ask for much more from a crime/heist movie. 9/10
Awesome movie. I remember feeling when I saw it that it would have influenced heaps of movies, in particular Pulp Fiction.

Saw Baby Driver. Walked out of it not sure if I liked it or not. This was because I wanted to like it, but it just wasn't a very good movie.

For me it was as if it was caught between taking itself seriously and being a pisstake.

It really suffered from having no really interesting characters (Jamie Foxx was the closest it came, if only because he was a bit of a loose cannon). Ansel was ok, but lacked personality, his backstory was tedious, his "quirkiness" was ok I guess, and his relationship with his deaf uncle was ok but overly cutesy, and Debora was boring stereotypical Southern diner girl.

The second half where the main bad guy kept not dying was just bizarre, of all characters to pick as the main villain they chose the least interesting and turned him into the Terminator for some reason. Spacey was a much bigger menace, and while predictable would have made a good boss villain, except for some reason he went from using and threatening Ansel to sacrificing his life for him for no reason. Bizarre writing.

Car chase scenes were well filmed but with the constant losing the cops only to pull out infront of another cop, Ansel's complete inability to ever not go on the wrong side of the road when making a turn, and Ansels absolute ignorance of the concept that when cops can't see him he is best off not driving like an absolute idiot it felt like it was surely trying to send up car chase movies, and yet it appeared to be taking itself seriously.

In summary, a movie that featured dumb criminals with none of them apart from maybe Spacey and Foxx actually being good at what they do, ok I guess characters in boring or unlikable relationships and action scenes that straddled the border of "good action film" and "pisstake" without ever really achieving either.

I really did want to like this film but honestly it was just so mediocre in every way.

Source Code

Second time seeing it and still of the opinion that it's a highly enjoyable little sci- fi thriller...albeit one full of plot holes and an ending that makes absolutely no sense. Seriously can someone explain it to me?

So he ends up continuing to exist...****ing where exactly? Not in his own head...because he's dead. Not in the Source Code itself...because that's a program he was disconnected from and could be shut down at any moment. So...where?

Also how the **** can he discover where the van with the bomb was and ascertain it's licence plate? That information can't have been in either the Source Code (it's creators would have had to have that information) or the memory of the guy it was based off (that guy never got off the train or saw the van).

Anyone care to explain these things?

The Man In The Iron Mask

The_Man_in_the_Iron_Mask.jpg

Caught this on TV a few weeks ago. Maybe the first time I've seen it since it was new. I enjoyed it. I like the portrayal of the older Three Musketeers and the bleakness of the characters thrown in is for good measure for what is a pretty fantastical story. They are all played well, and John Malkovich in a role as a protagonist is not often seen. Leo is great being a real arseh*le as King Louis, one of cinema's completely irredeemable characters up there with Biff from Back to the Future and Billy Zane from Titanic, then also strong playing the imprisoned twin, innocent and unaware of his true identity. There's fighting, laughs, and bits of drama in a balanced film.

It's a good action adventure period piece with a bit of star power behind it and some cheese on top.

Lifeforce (1985) - Entertaining sci-fi/horror craziness. Totally bonkers story about space vampires coming to London and causing havoc. The plot takes several strange turns but there's lots to enjoy with this movie. Loved the special effects. It's one of those movies you can't believe that it ever got made, a big-budgeted schlock extravaganza that hardly makes any sense. Just about the ultimate B-movie. 8.5/10

I reckon I've seen this movie a long time ago! From memory it was pretty ridiculous!
