Man of Steel.

Hadn't seen it before yesterday. Didn't mind it but also thought it wasn't great. Henry Cavill plays a good Superman. Not a fan of Snyder though.
How to write a Man of Steel action scene -

Have Superman thrown through a building, killing dozens of people.

Rinse and repeat.

Hated it. Probably doesn’t help that Superman/Clark Kent is a) overpowered and b) such a boring character.

The thing is a good Superman story should do the reverse. Clark Kent is the alter ego, Superman the man under behind the mask. Superman 2 did it brilliantly, made Kent's part as big as Superman. It's not like Batman where nobody gives a **** about Bruce Wayne.

How do you do those spoiler things

The plot sounds kinda cheesy. I guess they wanted to stay true to the novel though.

Ah look I wasn't expecting much- I saw it mainly to get out of the house and it was the only thing on at the time I wanted.

Movies change books all the time though- I cant believe that ending tested positively during test audiences and they didnt re shoot it.

Yeah I'm not a huge Superman fan. The throwing through a building thing happened waaaaaaay too much in that film. You're absolutely right with the rinse/repeat.

For some reason I thought there was a 2nd one after that but doesn't seem to be. Not sure I'd bother watching it anyway tbh.

Batman v Superman is the sequel. It's just as horrible

Princess Mononoke (1997) - Epic, violent anime adventure. Great animation and an interesting story, philosophical at times but things are never black & white. I can see why animation fans consider Hayao Miyazaki a god. 8.5/10

Death Note / Death Note: The Last Name (2006)
- This is essentially one long movie even though it's in two parts. Fantastic thriller, very complicated at times but easy enough to follow. CGI effects were a bit jarring at first but you get used to them. Stuff the weak Hollywood remake and watch the originals. 7.5/10

Oldboy (2003)

I don't usually watch foreign films because most of the time I can't be arsed reading subtitles but may have to start after watching this.

Wow, just wow. This movie did not go the way I expected. Funny, incredibly grim, bloody entertaining.

9/10.

I saw The Mountains Between Us this afternoon.

I enjoyed it (for the most part- see below)- it had some pretty intense scenes, including the plane crash. But there was one massive, huge downer. The ending.

It was just complete over done Hollywood rubbish. I didnt mind up until the very final scene where they decide to go their separate ways, and walk away from each other but then OH NO WAIT THEY WERE WRONG and run into each others arms. Get bent.

Same movie up until the final scene. All the PTSD they are both suffering is obvious- we get it, what you went thru, no one else went through and can therefore never understand. Nothing will ever be the same again- you cant just "walk" back into your old lives even tho you survived your ordeal. SCENE RESTAURANT: You meet at a table, have the same conversation. The guy is heartbroken you will not leave your fiance. Tenderly he tells Kate he is here whenever she needs him- and walks away. Kate picks up her glass -tears in eyes- where she spots the crushed ice in her glass (makes the connection ice/her saviour fed her the ice when they were lost) And picks up the phone to say she needs him. He walks back inside. Fade to Black

I give it a 5/10. Deducted 5 points for the ending.

Oh yeah and this LMFAO:

Every scene there is just magically a fire!! There is no collecting of wood.. no lighting of fire THEY JUST ALWAYS HAVE FIRE. Did lol
THey used the petrol from the plane I thought.

Mad Max, Fury Road.

Never seen any of the Mad Max's before last night but checked this out on Netflix. Was pleasantly surprised - not normally my type of genre but found it very entertaining throughout. Feel like it may have gone a little bit long but really good otherwise.

Sorry- actually picked up on some lines I had totally missed, including the banter between the garbage men. And- the part Art falls over the fence, setting off the alarm. The Klopek guy goes innocently: "Who is that another neighbours?" and the old guy goes: "Yes the FAT ONE".

Another line I didnt really notice was Carrie Fisher saying: "Before one of you falls off a roof or sets yourself on fire...."
That was a total premonition for what happens later. :D

the good thing with this movie, is a lot of the script was improvised as they went along

Watch Mad Max 2, very cool apocalyptic survival movie with a young Mel Gibson starring.
The best of the series imo plus Virginia Hey is very hot as the warrior woman. :thumbsu:

I saw it a couple of weeks ago. My car was being serviced and I needed something to do to kill some time instead of walking around in Kalgoorlie's heat.

Kate Winslet is gorgeous, so that was a big tick to start. I've liked Idris Elba since his turn as Stringer Bell in The Wire.

That's was about as good as it got for me. 5 / 10. A pleasant time waster.

I was getting my other car serviced Monday just gone so had to kill some more time. GeoStorm. 2/10. Along with his mate Idris Elba, I really like Gerard Butler, but this one is a stinker.
