Justice League: average. good that it was only a couple of hours. Feel the casting and content is good and likable but everything else like the direction, pacing and plot is pretty bollocks. Still a pretty good option to pass the time on a hot day with the action being entertaining enough. Nothing memorable about this film other than Superman's face 6/10

Is that the first time you've seen it?
Legendary film, one of my all time faves.
That coffee shop scene was their first ever scene together in a movie. Hard to believe!

I saw it when it first came out and this was the first re-watch. I was already a fan of Michael Mann after Last of the Mohicans.

Did Pacino and De Niro not have any shared scenes in Godfather II ? Time for a re-watch!

The Founder. About how Ray Kroc took the McDonald brothers business plan and took it to the world while screwing them over something shocking and showing himself to be an absolute arseh*le.
Great performance by Michael Keaton.

Justice League - as a huge comic book fan and part nerd it’s just a weird thing to say that coming out of this saying “it’s not as bad as I expected” is a positive.

If you’re like me you’ll get giddy at the hero shot of the league (but it’s nothing on the hero shot of the avengers fighting ultron and his clones) but aside from that there’s not much to love about this. Gal is brilliant, Momoa is pretty rad (although the underwater scenes make me genuinely afraid for the Aquaman film) and Ezra Miller is a solid highlight.

Affleck seems to just hate that he ever agreed to this, Generic villain is soooo generic and Cyborg is just a straight up Dues Ex Machina in every way possible but the real lowlight is Superman/Cavill. You’re just waiting for him to show up and when he does everything else that was happening is superfluous. Supes is just dull and trying to make him brooding and dark doesn’t work in the slightest.

You won’t hate it but you won’t love it and when 3 of the truly great comic book heroes (and one who has become cult worshipped) are knocking about onscreen you shouldn’t be able to make anything short of an 8. This is a solid 7/10 though.

The Farthest: The Story Of Voyager
Documentary on the Voyager 1 & 2 missions, from the beginnings in the 1960's to Voyager 1's leaving of our Solar System in 2012 and entering interstellar space. What makes it one of the best documentaries I've seen is the story is told through the eyes of the scientists and the engineers who were involved in the mission, as well the people involved in the creation of the gold records. There is also a lot of images of the planets and archival footage that I hadn't seen previously.

Justice League
I finally went and saw this one today. I wasnt expecting much but I was hopeful it would produce. It started out really slooowly and kept going really slowly so much so I looked at my watch more than once. The end gets a bit exciting but not enough to pick this movie up. I wont be rushing to watch this again but given that I had $6.50 left on a Wallis gift card so I only paid $5.50, ate before I went and took my own drink Im not as disappointed as I could be. Also its 32 degrees or something in Adelaide today so sitting in the air conditioned cinema for 2 hours wasnt a bad thing ;)
5.5/10

The Killing of a Sacred Deer: Drawn out, tense and atmospheric. You know you're going to get something to think about with this director (who also did the Lobster)
I reckon it's one of those rare examples of a film being pretty perfectly casted. Farell and Kidman are strong and the young actor Barry Keoghan is brilliant. First saw him in the great Irish crime drama Love/Hate. His face is a memorable one. Will go far.
Heavy film. 7.5/10

Can’t wait to check this out I loved The Lobster. I’ve been meaning for ages to check out his earlier films as well Dogtooth and Alps.

What would you say it measured in drpm?

Some movies I've recently seen:

Ivan's Childhood (1962) - Excellent movie about a 12 year Russian boy who is a scout on the front line in WWII. Not much action, but tense and artfully shot. Compared to Tarkovsky's other movies the pacing is quite brisk and plot more straightforward. One of the better anti-war movies. 8/10

SPL: Kill Zone (2005)
- Entertaining police action/thriller from Hong Kong. A dying police inspector tries to take out a crime boss at any cost before he retires. A bit over the top in some aspects but entertaining overall. Good fight scenes. 7/10

Bring Me the Head of Alfred Garcia (1974)
- Not sure what to think of this. Some good scenes throughout, but it's slow at times and most the characters have little redeeming features. Not bad but I was expecting better. 6/10

Slaughterhouse-Five (1972) -
Odd sci-fi/drama about a man who becomes unstuck in time, uncontrollably moving in time from his birth to his death. Strange story but an interesting film, quite funny at times and certainly never dull. Goes from scenes of WWII to scenes of life on a faraway planet. Hard to categorize but I liked this. 7.5/10

Drag Me to Hell (2006)
- Decent horror movie. Funny at times, kinda ridiculous plot but doesn't really matter. Not the best horror movie ever, but had a great ending. 6/10

I was shocked when I found out this book had been adapted; all things considered, they did a wonderful job. It's a pretty wild story.

Gave The Ascent (1977) another watch the other day. There are some brilliant Soviet war films out there.

The Big Sick - I find it a little amusing that this is being touted as a romcom, pretty much a straight up drama with a few funny lines. I was pleasantly surprised by how serious it got while remaining heartfelt, quality stuff. Was nice to see Ray Romano in this kind of role too. 8/10

The Equalizer - Had a few drinks and felt like something kinda trashy were I didn't have to think much. Turns out it was trashier and I had to think less than I had even hoped. Premise as cliche as it was ridiculous, but entertaining enough if you feel like seeing Denzel **** up some bad dudes. Pacing was decent. 5/10

Nope. I'm a wog, it's mandatory that I know these things.

Yep. A real prick. Treatment of his wife was horrendous too, if his portrayal is accurate.

Quality?
I thought it was average, a fairly forgettable flick.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets - I had heard bad things about this film and the trailers left me a bit cold so I was surprised when I finally seen it how good it was. A sci fi/fantasy based on an interesting premise, and I thought it worked despite its flaws. Maybe it won't go down in movie history as one of the greats, I don't know, but for what it was I found it an entertaining film. The film is simultaneously bonkers and gorgeous, and while confusing at times, it has enough energy/intelligence to get it over the line. 6/10

Taxi Driver

A masterpiece by Scorcese. DeNiro plays Travis, an ex-Vietnam vet, who is socially awkward and takes up driving because he can't sleep at night. He has unsatisfactory liaisons with Betsy - played by Sybil Shepherd, a presidential nomination worker - and Iris, a 12 year old prostitute, played by Jodie Foster. There is a smooth descent into madness by Travis, with violent ends.

The movie is over 40 years old now but still feels relevant depicting how a loner might develop crazy, murderous ideas on how to put the world right.

10/10.
