There probably needs to be a general discussion thread though considering how much stuff sways in this thread.
Just consider this thread to be that thread. What's the point of it if not to talk about movies? You need something to trigger discussion: people posting what they've seen. Would be boring af if just left at that.

Never understand why people get their knickers in a twist about discussion in this thread. It is a forum after all.

This, weve had the discussion about general movie threads and specific threads before and theyve been tried in various formats and dont work.

As soon as someone has seen another movie it will generate a new discussion.

As it was this one came off someone seeing Hustle, not like it just popped up randomly from someone saying they didnt rate Sandler etc.

Until Uncut Gems I hadn't seen a Sandler Film since Click and that was OK, mostly because Walken is usually fun and I didn't mind the ending in the rain (I can't remember the exact details) but I loved Uncut Gems, thought his performance was great and the direction was great, the pacing was crazy, felt like a 2 hour heart attack by the end.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is the last film I watched & loved it, basic story with some sci-fi and philosophy thrown in. Fantastic performances, direction and editing. 5/5 Camus.

Next stage is Carey and Sandler need to do some action flicks and we can debate their merits as an action star.

Sandler has a couple movies that lean toward comedy action.

I enjoyed Bulletproof when it came down - haven't seen it since so no doubt it will be straight up trash on second viewing.

The Last Seduction 1994 - I hadn't watched this for about 20 years, how the * Linda Fiorentino didn't win every award available for this is beyond me.

As Molly says, if you haven't already, do yourself a favour.

Watched it this morning and loved it. Fiorentino is an absolute babe and put in a great performance. The script was pretty tight and it was good that they didn't go for the cliched ending. The only downer was the grating score but it's a minor quibble.

7/10

Yes much better to just have no conversation at all.
Would be nice if it weren't the exact same conversation that was funking up the thread a week ago though.

Sandler, Kevin James and Schneider in a shot-for-shot remake of Predator?

Talk about serendipitous discussions.....Josh McConville, Elvis, Kurt Russell, Carrey Sandler, Segal, back to Kurt Russell, Late Beckinsale.....who starred in a Cusack movie called Serendipity.

What about Kurt Russell as the Elvis impersonator in 3000 Miles to Graceland? A great crime movie, different.

Elvis.
Just great. Another good cinema experience, pretty packed on a Sunday arvo. Played all the hits, and told the story of Elvis' life but through the lens of Colonel Tom Parker. Hanks accent was interesting, I've seen it criticized but it didn't take away anything for me.
Just fun. Lurmamn did a good job without letting himself get in his own way too much, although obviously his signature style was shown throughout.
They chose interesting story and plot arcs or whatever to go with, but overall I liked it and am happy with everything that was done.
Butler was amazing as others have said, and I'm looking forward to see his career continue to play out. As I've read around the place, he really became Elvis with a lot of his mannerisms and all that.
I find the criticism that I've seen weird, for example The Big Picture hosts really didn't seem to like it at all, but so much of the criticism they directed at the movie, could easily be thrown at a movie like Top Gun Maverick, which they loved (so did I fwiw).
Overall it tells a really sad story about Elvis being 'stuck in a trap', and it really is quite a depressing movie at times, although it didn't go overly into his drug addiction and alcohol use too much. At the same time though, the fun parts were awesome, and the whole movie to me went really quickly and was a bit of a fever dream, which life seemed to be for Elvis unfortunately dying so young.

8.5/10. Sorry I wrote way too much then, just enjoyed it and enjoy Elvis' music a lot.

As I have said before, the problem with this thread is that discussions about individual movies are not grouped together. Someone might watch and comment on something released 3 months ago, but the original conversation about the movie might be 10 pages ago. So you lose the interaction and shared appreciation or criticism. Older movies might fall outside this version (6) of the thread so the discussion would be even more disparate.

The alternative would be to scrap the 'What's the last movie you saw?' multiple thread and instead have a general movie discussion thread. People could still post what they have just watched but be encouraged to discuss an individual movie within its own thread. If the last movie you watched was Man on the Moon and you commented it would rise to the top of the list of threads.

The issue still remains that the individual movie threads don’t generate the same level of engagement as this one as heaps of people don’t even realize they want to discuss movie x until someone else brings it up so they’re not going to head into that thread to discuss it. This thread has so much engagement and so many users involved it makes no sense to change it.

If the convo goes wildly off track it will be reined in but that rarely happens (in fact this thread generally requires the least moderation on the whole board)

A 'general movie' thread would generate the same level of engagement. Then the guidance to have discussion about individual movies in their own threads might generate more engagement.

It's best of both worlds. The general thread could deviate into any type of conversation. The movie specific threads could get into detail and better interaction on a particular topic.

I don't this alternative has been trialled. But I feel we are in Groundhog Day on this subject.

Remake of the Running Man please in this regard.
Edgar Wright is apparently working on a remake of The Running Man. At least he was, I don't know if it's still happening. I'm not sure if it's intended to be a remake of the old Arnie movie or going back to be a more accurate adaptation of the book. I hope it's the latter because I loved the book and found the original movie really disappointing as a result (ie they have nothing in common apart from the general idea of a lethal game show). They might have trouble getting the original ending over the line in a post-September 11 world (even 20+ years later), but otherwise it was a great book and one that I'd love to see a faithful adaptation of.

Happy for you to start the thread. I still don’t see the point, this thread just becomes “I saw x” and no discussion?

One closer to the book would be great - the film was pulp though Killian (the host) and the little old lady were the best parts of it.

I'm down with all discussion in here apart from SRP type stuff, that cancerous board pollutes way too many off topic threads

i personally love random chaotic super-threads like this. It's fascinating to sit and read when you're in the moment. And you can leave it for a week, a month, and come back and there'll be other or even the very same discussion going on from months prior -- serendipitiously indeed. And it's great for spontaneously finding movie recommendations whenever you pop in randomly.
