Continued in Part 7:

In a weird way i actually think he hit his brief really well. Queen had rights over script control etc etc and it was very clearly the story they wanted to tell (a hero arc that wasnt offensive to anyone and showed them all as misfits who made it work etc).

Ultimately it was a midday movie with a blockbuster budget. The Live Aid scene is truly brilliant but in the end its just not "good" in that its a karaoke sing along. The Oscars love a biopic and obviously like Rami. I dont think the movie did anythign but enhance Queens legacy though.
You are right about midday movie with a budget. I've watched straight to video biography films on Def Leppard and Meat Loaf, and honestly, there's no real difference. Even the ABC film on The Easybeats.

He probably did hit his brief but his brief was only one dimension of Freddie. Freddie had more to him.

Yeh agree completely, just noting i think the film was exactly what the remaining Queen guys wanted it to be plus i think it made nearly a billion dollars and Queen would be getting some sweet percentage on it.

Did you see The Dirt about Motley Crue? I thought it was every bit as enjoyable as Bohemian Rhapsody on half the budget

I remember watching the Oscars that year and feeling as though I was at an “In Remembrance” event for Queen.

Home sick with COVID, feeling down so I put on my happy place movie.

Pulp Fiction.

This is the movie I’d pick if I was only allowed to watch one movie for the rest of my life. Just has everything I like in a movie - memorable dialogue, violence, comedy, interesting film making techniques and an amazing soundtrack.
Know the feeling...In Bruges for me

After all the Sandler talk, I went thru my Sandler catalogue. Last night i watched CLICK, ZOHAN, and 50 FIRST DATES. I have all his movies, a number i havent seen, will get around to them, but thought 50 First Dates is arguably perhaps the best romance movie -- the premise/concept itself -- ever. What a great idea....a person with permanent short term memory loss, that you fall in love with, and how you have to cope with that, every day forever you have to win their love again, even at the end when spoiler spoiler spoiler

I watched Hustle, not bad.

Paint by numbers in a lot of ways but well executed and didn't quite go full fairy floss ending.

Some good human performances
Question:

Is it as good as the original Kung Fu version?
