Bodies Bodies Bodies

I'm a sucker for the A24 brand, any horror movie they bring out is basically a must watch for me (saw X recently which was also great). This was billed as a dark comedy/horror so I was surprised by how tense and serious it was at times, but there is some good comic relief.

Have to shout out the score, it's a banger. It made sense when I learned Disasterpeace wrote it who is responsible for one of the great modern horror scores in It Follows.

Overall an enjoyable whodunnit with some Gen Z social commentary and a splash of violence 4/5

I’ll probably (fairly) be howled down for this but…

Jurassic World: Dominion wasn’t bad…

It wasn’t good, it’s 30 minutes (at least) too long and the plot is not just ambling but also ridiculous but overall there’s some fun set pieces, a bit of nostalgia pr0n and generally an enjoyable little romp.

Let’s keep this going then…

Just rewatched Matrix Resurrections so wife could see it for the first time. Not only is it not bad, it’s pretty damn good.
It isn't a bad film, just thoroughly unnecessary (also tarred by the horrible Matrix Revolutions).

If we're talking about unpopular opinions, I didn't mind the new Pinocchio film.

It wasn't great, but I enjoyed it more than most of Disney's other live action remakes like The Lion King, Dumbo, Lady and the Tramp.

I certainly don't understand the hatred it seems to be getting when I think of those films (and plenty of others) that seem to get a free pass.

'Blonde' - 2022 bio of Marilyn Monroe 6/10 for me

I t has been panned for being inaccurate, don't know about that. I mainly didn't enjoy it because of the gruesome portrayal of her life, whether true or not. All pretty sad including her being abused by husband Joe DiMaggio.

It wasn't meant to be accurate. its was based of a fictional novel, this is a criticism i will never get. Movies are always fictional... otherwise they would be documentaries..

As for Blonde, I thought it was a well made film despite ADA lapsing with her accent a lot but totally depressing and will never watch it again.

I think if youre going to make a "biopic" a degree of realism is just expected, regardless of what your source material is. If youre gonna do a Marilyn movie it has be fairly honest to her life.

I havent seen Blonde so cant comment on it specifically but something like Green Book is a pretty good example. It seems to be a very accurate portrayal of one of the characters version of events but the family of the other has criticized it. Its not really okay to just ignore them by saying "well its based on Frankies book so you can piss off".

i don't disagree with this, but as mentioned in my Blonde post it was based on a fictional novel.

It wasn’t necessary but if Lana Wachowski didn’t do it, WB we’re gonna do it anyway and who knows what we would have got (certainly not something true to her vision). As it is, the film is true to her vision, gives a bit of an FU to the studio on the way (I didn’t realise there was an after credits scene until my Netflix watch) and is a decent epilogue to the story.

Bullet Train

This was a decent 7/10 action-comedy till the final act. Unfortunately, it was like they didn't know how to end the film (I have no idea how the novel it's based on ended, but surely it wasn't as bad) so just threw a bunch of shit at the wall, including turning it into an unnecessary CGI-fest, and hoped some of it stuck. I went from spending most of the film thinking that the critics were wrong, to just wanting it to be over with by the time the credits rolled.

See How They Run

I thought about walking out but didnt. It's a Knives Out type movie set in the 50s with horrendous 70s Benny Hill type humor (one of the characters was called Cockinaris which was pronounced as Cockinarse by the Saoirse Ronan character.) and an absolutely horrible makes no sense ending.

And this is going to be a problem in almost all movies and TV shows made from now on, the cast was inorganically diverse and all i could focus on was that this character makes no sense here.
I have no problem with diverse casts but sticking square pegs in round holes takes me right out of the movie.
