Finally watched Heretic (2024).
That was great, awesome tension building, amazing performances by all, Ive always rated Sophie Thatcher from Yellowjackets.

The filmmakers probably enjoy the smell of their farts a little too much because at times some of the deliberate "filmmaking" was a bit distracting.

Solid 8/10, highly recommend

Loved the concept, where Phone Booth meets Die Hard, yet I felt disappointed overall.

Too many cringe moments, sub par dialogue, unrealistic and unbelievable scenes. The whole storyline is ott and could the end game could have been achieved easier

Worth a watch but does drag on and isnt overly memorable.

The cast was reasonable with some exceptions. Reisha Reynolds was very ordinary

Not sure where they are going in the 4th film but I'm hyped for it.

The first and second act had some nice tensions but when the peril ramps up it starts to disappear up its own bum hole a little bit.

Hugh Grant just gets a pass.

I couldn’t say I was bored at any point.

Back to the Future 2 last night for the most recent of many times, and I still can't believe I picked up another paradox I hadn't noticed before.

Marty's lousy future in 2015 - unhappily married to Jennifer, dysfunctional kids, troubles at work, severe financial pressures - were the result of several factors, but mostly due to a past incident in which Marty was goaded into a drag race, crashed into another driver, was prosecuted and sued for what happened plus his own injuries in the crash ended what could have been a promising music career.

Most of the BTTF time travel anomalies can be chalked up to the time lapse effect, but in the case of Marty the fateful accident was not far away, it was in fact later the same day he returned from his time travels. The problem is, there is no means for Marty to have been involved in the 1985 car accident in any known timeline. In the first timeline, the McFly's did not own the truck, and the only car they owned was seriously damaged by Biff the day earlier.

In the second timeline, Marty did not have time to drive the new truck before he and Jennifer were taken to 2015 by Doc to rescue their son from getting involved in crime with Griff Tannen. I don't know what good this achieved, Marty JNR was a clueless idiot who learned nothing from his near miss and even with Griff and his gang gone, who's to say by next week there wouldn't be another bully or conman there to take his place. Had they returned without Old Biff stealing the time machine and to two minutes after they left then yes, Marty could well have taken the fateful drive that messes up his entire future.

However they return to Timeline 3 - the seriously altered nightmarish one - and obviously Marty has no opportunity there to destroy his own future - he is at some boarding school in Switzerland. After going back in time first to 1955 then 1885 Marty returns to 1985 much wiser and avoids the car accident in Timeline 4.

The trip to 1885 though was not planned, the initial plan was for the 1985 Doc and Marty to their own timeline on the same day they left - which would have seen Marty again with the chance to be in the accident. But when Doc gets stuck in the Old West, he advises by letter Marty not to follow him there, but to return to 1985 straight away with the help of 1955 Doc. It is Marty's own decision to go back to 1885 at this point.

So what would have happened if in returning to 1985 the Delorean's unreliable time circuits had skipped forward a day so Marty missed the day of the accident entirely and arrived home the next day. Would he have just not been around the day before or would there have been another Marty in a skewed timeline driving and getting first into the car race and then the accident?

The Sony/marvel verse has been basically a disaster. Hopefully they just hand over the rights now so the actual MCU can use the characters.

It's actually amazing. How can so many movies from the same franchise be so consistently bad despite talent and experience and high budgets? It's almost impossible.

I think maybe they need some new ideas in the super-hero genre, how many times can you use the same characters and plots over and over again? A lot of super-hero movies just follow the same patterns ad infinitum.

Today I was thinking back to AFL players with amusing or unusual names and remembered Brisbane Lions player Llane Spaanderman from the mid-2000s. He sounds like he comes straight from the pages of a Marvel comic. Another example would be a female USA soccer player from the 2000s and 2010s named Hope Solo, she sounds like she's a character from Star Wars.

In a Violent Nature - Too many slow walks, ok to show that at start but just wanted to press fast fwd. Just a gory slasher with some dumb kills. Was not scary and not even that creepy just silly - 3/10

Watched carryon. Doesnt it completely rip off the main plot/using people with threats against their loved ones as the tv series Hijack that was on apple?
Overall 6/10. First half maybe 7/10. Second half 5/10.

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas - Prime

First time watching

Like Will Ferrell watching a Jim Carrey movie at times can be just tiresome . It could be an age thing or a saturation of face mugging and acrobatic moves but its harder and harder to watch Carrey in action

Unfortunately Grinch suffered the same fate for me. It could be me not feeling well today or it was tiresome trying to finish it - I didnt - choosing a nap instead

90% of Carrey is way too much for me these days. I did find one scene I laughed at and that was it.

I will take this one out of the rotation

One of my boys is away next week so we had Christmas Day today. Roast dinner followed by Home Alone. What a classic!

There's only little things that have aged it. The stunts are still funny. Culkin's performance is amazing for his age. Pesci and Stern are hilarious as the dumbarse thieves. Catherine O'Hara was very expressive as the Mom. It's got a great score.

The Garfield flicks were decent enough IMO, the first was a bit average but I really like the second, though I know that's unpopular, it was at least trying to do something on an epic scale.

Way scarier than I had expected, but also sexy (Keaton and Pfeiffer holy moly). Love the sense of insanity in every character to varying degrees.

The makeup, the music and the one liners are all fab. Great movie.

The Fugitive - Last watched it in April, felt it was time and I was in the mood for another viewing

Air Force One - Haven't seen this in donkeys years. I was entertained!

Its 30 minutes too long

As part of my Xmas marathon I watched Die Hard - probably 30+ years since I watched it - and I dont think it left me with any more fascination than it did then

I dont hate it . Its a competent action movie with cartoon heroes and cartoon baddies. But I have no emotional connection that others seem to have

The lines are iconic and the interplay is ok. Its just ehh. Maybe a tighter shorter movie might have helped but its not in my top 50 movies and its not in my top 20 Xmas movies

Definitely worth watching together, you both will love it.

Just pay very close attention to the opening scenes as it sets the foundation for the entire movie.
