Contraversial opinion but Die Hard with a vengeance is a more entertaining film than the original (it’s not BETTER but it’s a shitload of fun).

2 I always found to be pretty poor by comparison
Die Hard is to Raiders of the Lost Ark
As Die Hard 2 is to Temple of Doom
As Die Hard With a Vengeance is to The Last Crusade

Could be. I had always thought Under Siege
Google the phrase ‘dolled up instalments’. It’s basically where they take a pre-existing script, change the name of the film and main character and make it part of a series. I don’t remember the exact order but I think Die Hard 2 was supposed to be Speed 2 (makes more sense), Speed 2 was supposed to be Under Siege 2 (fast moving train), plus more. Whoever gets in first sometimes gets the best script.

Never thought about them like that, but that comparison is spot on, the third movie is my favourite from both trilogies.

Another one that follows a similar trend is BTTF

a couple of other michael wincott movies.

closest point of reference would be an early 80's midsommar, without any horror. the creepy feeling of a cult eventually controlling someone. bordering on being an exposé. always that sense of a facade hiding something else.

and

probably the most michael wincott role ever, his first. plays a baddie, incomprehensible lines (screechy rather than gravel), and is dead before the credits. movie switched off at that point. boxing, gambling, police politics... nah.

Carry-On… surprisingly effective old school action thriller. I was expecting a Die Hard knock-off but it was better than that. Taron Egerton is good as the everyman TSA agent, Jason Bateman good as the villain and the bounce off each other well. Not to be taken too seriously but builds tension nicely. 7/10
Watched it last night.
Sorry can’t agree. Poorly put together film.
3/10

The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim

As a huge LOTR fan, just not sure what i think of this. I like the story, but i've never been a fan of this kind of animation, to be honest always thought it was pretty crap, so that automatically hurts the film for me.

5.5/10, why anime, why?

The Zone of Interest (2023)

I heard about this movie on a podcast and found it on STAN. It's about the Commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Hoss, and his family, who lived in a home attached to the camp. It doesn't show any of what's going on in the camp directly, but the noises, sites of crematorium chimneys smoking, the smells washing over occasionally, and the sometimes contact with human remains while doing leisure activities as a family are deeply disturbing. This movie won an Oscar & BAFTA for Best Foreign Film this year. I found it a genuinely fascinating film. 9/10
