Then you have Ben Johnson, Maxwell, R.Shaw, Swan, Cox & Lonie if he isn't on the wing.

Something like that But i have no idea about match up's so someone else could pick way beter match up's.

So who gets Pavlich, Murphy, Farmer, Longmuir, Hedland, Crowley etc..

My original post was in response to a Clement/Tarrant match up which I thought suited us beautifully.

Not trolling, just interested in your supporters thoughts on how you would match up against one of the better forward lines in the AFL.

From what I have seen you don't. On paper at least.

Considering that we also have your measure, or at least break even in the midfield. Where you yourself say you have trouble.

I don't think a spanking is too longer bow to draw at all.

I doubt that Tarrant is our fastest forward, I would give that to Murphy. But that is nit picking.

And I doubt that you will see Tarrant playing the same type of game that he was with the Pies.

He certainly wont be a KPP at least. I think you will find him playing more on the flanks pumping the ball deep to the likes of Pav, Murphy and Farmer crumbing.

If you match Presti up with him and he is dragged out of his position in the backline then I see that creating even more problems for you.

i doubt tarrant will be a kpp forward, it's no secret he chokes and can't kick for goal. Unless freo have some method to stop him choking in front of the big sticks he wont be forward, i'd assume they see potential in him delivering it to the forward, or even playing him on a wing or something.

i also doubt he will be cleaned up out of spite, are we gonna clean up cloke when we play carlton as well? doubtful.

That is the clubs public intention at least.

I hope they stick to that because I agree with you about his goal kicking problems.

i dont think any of the freo boys will be out to get medhurst as he pretty much had to leave for his career. in saying that, some of the boys might have a crack at him, im sure theres a few that never liked him.

I doubt there will be hostility to Tarrant on the field. It isn’t like he walked. I never thought Buckley had a lot of time for him but Buckley doesn’t play the man. If he had an opportunity to lay a legit bump he’d probably take it. We don’t have a particularly aggressive side. Rocca is one who like to lay a bump but he’ll be at the other end of the ground and would stand no chance of getting near him unless he was asleep – which is remotely possible. I suspect there will be a few in the crowd who will give him a serve.

I am sure everyone at Collingwood knows exactly how to upset Taz and how easily he is distracted from the game. Stir him up verbally, hold him when the ball is up the ground, a little wack here and there from some young upstart and he will forget about footy and play the man and probably get reported. I wouldn’t bother unless he gets off to a flier though.

As far as game plan against Tarrant, the players that trouble him and smaller and can run with him. He can take a screamer but he needs to run at the ball for that. He isn’t actually that string over head. Some clubs make the mistake of playing a marking/spoiling tall type on him. He eats them for breakfast and burns them out by quarter time. Joel Smith had his measure. We aren’t blessed with that type but I’d play Heath Shaw on him with a taller backup like Presti who can run with a leading player and spoil without giving away a free kick and of course Clement is always an option. Just on free kicks, I bet you all Tarrant gets 3 times as many free kicks at Subi in 2007 as he got in the whole the last 2 seasons all up.

Medhurst has to make the side and then stay in it before anyone can get too concerned about how Freo will handle him. I think he has the talent but the brain is another matter. Hopefully Malthouse can motivate him and Buckley can guide him better than either could do with Taz.

As for Freo, no one is concerned with that club. No one! They are widely expected to make the finals and be top 4 contenders. That makes them all but certain to miss the 8 as per usual. Head cases with an average coach. Unless Shaw and Harvey have worked the miracles that were needed last year will just be another Freo shooting star.

Anyway, good luck to Tarrant. We marched him out and he still got a deal for us and went to the club we chose for him on our terms. Who was the last player who did that for us?

I agree BfG, however I dont think Tarrant was a liability. He had his good days and like most players had is bad/shockers! But I am sure Ben Reid will be an absolute Jet for the pies, having played with him, I know its exactly what we need!

I think they will play someone who is fast and can run off him. Not the best at kicking straight for goal outside 40 but like you said" around the ground he can be dangerous", he can set plays up.

tarrant played his best footy for the pies in 02,03 when he was on a flank with a combo of A.Rocca, J.Molloy and J.Fraser as the key forwards......think we know exactly what taz can produce when 100% fit

question is since then he always seems to have minor niggles which impeed him

plenty depends on the make-up of ur forward half and where players actually line up!

For arguments sake if freo went tall with

Taz and Pav across half forward and Longmuir and Murphy deep i reckon

it would go

Taz - Lonie
Pav - Clement
Longmuir - H.Obrien/Maxwell
Murphy - Presti

as i dont think wakelin will get much of a run in 07

Lonie may be given a job on taz as he has played well on goodes, burton and taz is a similar type, that might work as taz will think he can over-power lonie and try to wrestle, but taz is hopeless when trying to wrestle, Lonie would be able to go with him on his big leads!

headland may be ur other flank and be comfortable with any of lonie, b.johnson or h.shaw taking him

very happy that we can handle any forward line really
