Caro Wilson's fiction in the Age this morning.
"But by late yesterday Laidley had still not spoken to North chief executive Eugene Arocca. For months there has been speculation that Laidley and Arocca had fallen out and the Laidley camp believed the CEO wanted a new coach. He was not expected at the Laidley household last night. Caretaker coach Darren Crocker was."
Contrast with the facts.
EUGENE Arocca has denied claims that there was a severe rift between him and former Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley. Laidley handed in his resignation to North Melbourne yesterday, walking away after six and half years in the job.
Reports in the Fairfax press today suggested his decision was hastened because Laidley had fallen out with Arocca – the Kangaroos’ CEO– with the coach’s camp believing the CEO wanted a new coach.
Arocca today told SEN radio this morning that was not true, nor was the claim that he had not attended the farewell held at Laidley’s house last night.
"I thought at least I should try to clarify one thing, and that is there is no rift between me and Dean, and I was certainly invited to his place last night," Arocca said.
“Most people who know me know I’m usually in the office about seven o’clock in the morning, but I’ve struggled to work a bit this morning. I was at Dean’s place until about quarter to one this morning"
