Just did nothing in that first quarter other give away a free kick and then a 50m penalty for chatting back to the ump which handed Richmond a goal. Literally has a -1 rating at the moment. If he keeps this up it's going to be a long week for him.
I'm honestly hoping I see you vindicated lmao

Just saying he's a young talented small forward so it's hard to assess consistency for him

Credit where it's due. He outworked Broad to take a solid mark 15m out and converted for his first score of the day. Good stuff but they need more from him when they're down by 45 points before halftime.

Greenwood a much better fit with this Kangas team.
Must have been a horror show there last year.
As we know, when it is a horror show on and off the field, hard to tell who is good, who is useful, and who is empty calories.

PS. Fawlty Towers style, don't mention LDU! Going from A grade to Elite. Don't mention LDU.

Sounds like Longmuire might be going through what we did with Brodie. Great stoppage player, but when your midfield is full of slow inside mids, what do you do with one that can’t play anywhere else and can only play 70% TOG max. Their midfield is not firing enough to cover his weaknesses.

I see Will Brodie is stuck in the WAFL for a second week in a row. Apparently he had a big game for Peel yesterday so he may very well end up back in the Freo side that faces us this coming Friday night but not being selected for two consecutive weeks probably tells you something about the way he's viewed over there. Especially considering the way he played last year, but the coaches are obviously unwilling to back him in.

Rankine has started well for the Crows in this game. I know it's going to be a constant talking point all year (and for years to come) but I still come back to the thinking that if not matching the exorbitant salary the Crows offered Rankine has allowed us to retain both Rowell and Anderson, then it was worth it. Rankine's great but it's kind of like going back to 2017 and asking if you'd rather have Eddie Betts in your team or Dustin Martin plus Trent Cotchin. Pretty easy decision I would have thought considering you either take two Brownlow Medallists or a prolific small forward. I do think both Rowell and Anderson are capable of winning Brownlows in the future but I highly doubt Rankine will ever be that player and will do most of his best work in the forward line. I'd love to keep them all but the salary cap dictates that at some point you have to be selective in who you put your money into and I'd definitely rather my money going towards Rowell/Anderson over Rankine.

I hope Brodie gets back in next week because we smoked Freo by 40 last year with him.

Im confident we smash freo next week, luckily it's in Adelaide and not Perth. They have no ball movement and are only looking down the line.

Add in the low confidence 1-3 (crows should win) and staying in Adelaide for an extra week, we could break them. Especially if it rains

Rankine is gonna hurt unfortunately, just hope Humphrey can get a Rising Star nom and we'll move on

Yes, Rankine scored 2 goals but did not show too much otherwise so far. Rachele on the other hand looks fantastic and can play in the middle. Rachele > Rankine :p

Time to move on and enjoy 🐻 who wants to be Suns (at least for now). His former coach compared him to Toby Greene when playing forward. I take that.

Freo look bad. Hopefully, they play like that next Fri.

Brodie is what he was with Suns. It just took a bit longer for Freo to figure it out. As great he is inside he is liability in covering the ground and defensively.

5 tackles as well for Rankine. Playing a great 2 way game so far.

Freo look VERY beatable right now. They look slow and don't seem to be getting any fluid forward movement going - sound familiar? Brodie is notoriously slow so I just can't see them including him next week for that reason. Anyway, if Freo play like this on Friday and we play like we did against Geelong then it could end very badly for the Dockers. We need to use our speed and for the love of god please kick straight!

I think when assessing the situation you have to look at not only pick we received for Rankine, but also the salary cap space we cleared. Of course I want Humphrey to be a star but did removing Rankine's salary from our books help retain Rowell and Anderson in December/January? I would have thought the answer would be yes. Will it help us next year when we're trying to re-sign Ben King? Definitely. You want your big money contracts going to your prolific mids and star key forwards because they influence the game the most. Not your small forwards. Virtually every modern premiership team has subscribed to this: Geelong - Dangerfield & Cameron, Melbourne - Oliver, Petracca & Gawn, Richmond - Martin & Lynch etc. None of those premiership teams were paying their small forwards anything close to Rankine's current salary at the Crows.

As for Rankine, it looked like he hurt his upper leg in that second quarter and went off to get it massaged. He's out there with it strapped at the moment so we'll see if it affects his second half performance. His game is heavily reliant on his speed and evasiveness so if that's restricted then I don't think he'll be as damaging.
