Winning point of view:

Obvious - vs. West Coast, Round 9 2005, Eagles undefeated, Pies last and we beat them by 23 points - my first game, I may also add.

Losing view:

Vs. Geelong, Round 24 2011, first four goals and on early track for a massive win to round out possibly the best H&A season ever, then to be belted by 96 points and only kicking four more goals.

Shocking results in favour of Richmond:

Round 19 2006, Richmond destroying Brisbane by 82 points. Yeah, Brisbane were not good either, but it still came unexpected.

Round 8 2006, Richmond beating a dominant Adelaide.

Round 9 2012, Richmond vs Hawthorn. Richmond defeat Hawthorn by 62 points. That was a bit of a shock and quite unexpected.

Round 10 2015, Richmond's first quarter against the Dockers. It was something like 49-19. Knowing how enigmatic Richmond can be, I wasn't surprised that Richmond beat Fremantle. I was surprised in the manner they started off though.

Round 21 2015: Richmond vs Collingwood. What da? No way was Richmond a 91 point better side than Collingwood. Not even on the day. It just happened :D

Shocking results against Richmond:

Richmond vs North Melbourne in 2013. We were coming off wins to the margins of 41, 38, 60 and 64 in the month previous to that game and suddenly North Melbourne come out and smash us by 62 points. Quite shocking really.

- The 2014 EF. I'll just leave it at that.

-The Karmichael Hunt debacle.

- Port Adelaide leading Richmond 80-20 by half time in one of the years of 2010-2012.

-Of course, the 222-65 loss against Geelong in 2007

I can't remember many more that were truly shocking since Richmond were quite bad in most years.

Shocking results not involving Richmond:

Geelong vs Melbourne 2011: what da? Melbourne were travelling alright. Suddenly they get whopped by 186 points.

Sydney vs Melbourne in 2010 (or 2011): what happened to Sydney that game? They got smashed by like 70 points or something.

- 2014 Grand Final.

- 2nd game in 2015 between Western Bulldogs and Melbourne. Melbourne were going alright before that game iirc. Suddenly, it is 74-2 midway through the second quarter. I thought records were going to be shattered that day

In 2012 round 17 ( I think) what hawthorn did to and how they went about it against the pies who were still a top 4 team did make me think there's something big brewing at Hawthorn! I know we lost the GF but this was more than just a flash in the pan type of performance. There seem to be a 'Method behind the Madness'!!!

What about Collingwood flogging Geelong in 2008 when they were unbeaten.
West Coast in the first final this year as well, especially with Priddis a late out.

I remember that game. There was also another one v Essendon early 90s when Hawks were having pretty lean run and came out and won by 120 points or some such.

Pretty lean run = reigning premiers, and having made 8 of the previous 9 grand finals? Ok.

Your not talking about Rd 20 1992?

HAW 32.24.216 ESS 8.8.56

Yeah, this is the game.

Hawthorn with 16 premiership players in their side, Essendon with four teenagers, and nine players under 50 games.

Was a few years ago so forgive my memory but thought late 92 hawks were not travelling that well and essendon were pronounced favourites

1995.
Stkilda bottom, Carlton top and we smash them by 10 goals. They did however win the next 13 and win a very well deserved and completely dominant premiership. Super underrated team the 95' Blues.
Well deserved??? They cheated remember?

Its a tainted flag. Lol i was on the wing where keogh knocked out hanna brilliantly. Best shirtfront ever

Elimination final vs Richmond, 2014
We'd had a pretty lacklustre end to the season and not a lot of people were expecting anything great from us, so the absolute beatdown we gave to Richmond was a surprise.
It was richmond. No surprise there. They dont know what finals are or how to play them.

Geelong 233 - Melbourne 47.

I was watching the delayed broadcast of the Bulldogs - West Coast game so had no idea about the score. I went to the shop at half time, then passed a pizza shop with the other game on. I looked from the outside at the score and couldn't see properly. Saw a 2 in front of Geelong's score, so thought I was misreading it. Went closer and saw Geelong having over 200 points! Shock indeed. Melbourne weren't travelling that bad either.

Another is Essendon 94 - Gold Coast 1 at quarter time.

Yeah, I was bloody nervous for that one as we hadn't been playing well leading into the finals. Never really bought into the whole 'we're tapering our form for September' excuse that comes out every year by supporters of various teams so was concerned at how we'd go, but we essentially did the same thing in 2013 and 2014 so maybe there was some good methodology behind it.

Haven't seen that shirt front. Do yourself a favour and see if you can find the Ricciuto and dean kemp shirt front. It is huge, I heard from someone (not sure if it's true) but apparently kemp kept on getting headaches when he ran out on the field for the remaining games of his career

Round 9 2008

Collingwood 20.14.134
Geelong 7.6.48

Right at the peak of our powers only regular season game we lost and got blown off the park.
I gave up trying to work out what was likely to happen in Geelong/Collingwood games in the 2007-2010 period. Whatever seemed like the least likely result given form in previous encounters seemed to always come about.

From a Pies perspective, the purple patch in mid 2005 was ridiculously confusing.

Rd 9 - Def West Coast (2nd) by 23 pts
Rd 10- Def Hawthorn (14th) by 28 pts
Rd 11 - Def Geelong (5th) by 25 pts
Rd 12 - lost to Melbourne (8th) by 44 pts
Rd 13 - lost to Sydney (1st) by 1 pt
Rd 14 - def Port Adelaide (6th) by 31 pts

In isolation doesn't look that strange but we finished the season with only 1 other win (over wooden spooners Carlton) in fifteenth place.

Just bewildering that mid season we were so competitive against the competition benchmarks but we bookended it with the worst crap we'd produced since the mid to late 90s

That was one out of the box. No doubt it sewed a seed in some Collingwood players minds too that they could beat anyone. Mentally it was a huge step towards the 2010 flag.

Conversely, the unexpected 96-point thumping that Collingwood received from Geelong in the last round in 2011 sewed Geelong the premiership IMO.

Geelong, St Kilda and Collingwood really did produce amazing games during that 09-11 stretch

Not quite the same. Collingwood were nowhere near it in 2008 so it gave the players some confidence that they could be a competitor by finally beating and belting a decent team.

Geelong were already a dual premiership team in 2011 and had already beaten Collingwood in the home and away as well as had a great home and away season, not far behind Colllingwoods (only a game and a bit of percentage). Its not as if they came from nowhere or had problems beating us.

What an interesting comment from a St Kilda supporter, especially when a game that was a real turn-up for the books resulted in their only flag. I was there.

Gavin Exell owns this as an individual. Kicked 9 goals against the Hawks in 89 and 8 the next week against the Saints.

These two games accounted for 3% of his matches but 15% of his goal tally.

Some other stats along those lines...

G - goals in match
CG - career goals
Avg = goal average in other matches
x Factor = G / Avg
