Footy is a two way game and Danger mostly excelled one way. Bont had 170 tackles last year, leads all midfielders in 1%ers, second in the league in smothers, leads the league in contested knock ons, etc. Does all the dirty defensive work and unheralded stuff while also being an elite ball winner, offensive weapon and an exquisite kick of the footy. Casual fans won’t notice that stuff though, they’ll just gravitate to whoever gets the 30 disposals.
Danger just never did the breadth of work that Bont does on both sides of the ball (e.g. Bont’s siting at 5.2 tackles a game for his entire career, a number Danger only managed in a season twice in 16 years) and his kicking simply wasn’t in the same league.
To each their own though, Danger was obviously a fantastic ball winner and great player too, in his prime.
