What? Since when is Essendon rebuilding? You were playing your best available side. I can't help but feel Essendon are one of the disappointing teams of this season, only behind St. Kilda and similar to the likes of Richmond, Fremantle and Carlton.
IMO 'rebuilding' is just as much about trying new structures and implementing different game plans than simply culling your list.
We were stagnant from 2002 to 2006. Tried a new path from 2007 to 2009. Now we are rebuilding from that. I don't think it's that hard to see.
Where is the Essendon troll that started a similar thread about Richmond? We'd love to hear from him. Has been strangely quiet lately!

if the tiges finish higher on the ladder than ess does that mean richmond are better?
I would say yes. Certainly playing better footbal that's for sure.

Beat both of these teams. One by 55 points, the other by 24 points with three injured.
That's not rebuilding. Rebuilding is list turnover, not tinkering with tactics and strategies. If Essendon have been rebuilding over the past few years, then so have Fremantle, Geelong, Hawthorn, St. Kilda, Sydney, Collingwood, West Coast etc.
Lost five games in a row and nobody has been shocked by that. Its been like watching a train crash in slow motion. You knew it was going to happen but theres not a thing they could to do to prevent it.

I think the Bombers were playing far above their abilities when Hird first became coach.

I'm not sure anyone can play better than their ability allows, but your point is well made. How poor is the "depth" of talent in the AFL competition that a team like Essendon can still be in with a chance to play finals?
There's only 5 or 6 teams that deserve to play finals, and I'm not trolling because my team is one of those 6, I was saying the same thing when we weren't. There are some real crap players running around masquerading as AFL footballers these days.
