He had two concussions in a row so naturally gets a week off, and probably still under fitness abit from his pre season illness

Certainly has ability. Can't wait to see him in a team going well. I think that's when we'll start to see the best of Ben........Just No more Head knocks!!

He spoke at the MRC after the win on Saturday night, said he hoped to return to the vfl next week and break into the team asap. He seemed very flat and it was hard to hear, said he was disappointed he wasn't part of the team in the final last year (very old news) but regardless he's keen to play senior football in the next few weeks

Really, is that how you interpreted it? I was in attendance too and thought he was quite upbeat. I was thinking of contributing to this post to say so. Wasn't hard to hear for me at all. Anyway, I guess it is just perception.

Glandular fever combined with him not being an endurance athlete, compromised pre-season, recent head knocks, 3rd year player .....think we need to give him a bit more time, our and the clubs support, and see what evolves. He has the skills and a role to play IMO. Attitude will surely be being tested at the moment. I think he'll come out the other side and be a very solid player.

Geez he needs to get over his non selection or it's going to lead to him playing footy in the burbs & selling Footy Records outside the G

Two options for him

Didn't get selected, deal with it, move on, play great VFL footy, earn a spot in the seniors, play 200+ senior games, part of a premiership team, setup for life

Vs

Didn't get selected, couldn't get over that, played some average VFL footy, delisted at 21, picked up in a regional comp, get a job cleaning the bleachers at the MCG

I know which way I would go

Comparing him to the way Chol spoke, yes I didn't think he was upbeat....

So he's getting over Glandular fever, interrupted pre season, and being hit on the head too much. Slack bastard, toughen up, in my day we got hit on the head all the time whilst having Malaria and Typhoid and still being expected to run the half marathon every game.

Am I doing it right?? :p:drunk:

Tell us more about chol....

As usual the MRC just can't turn the volume on the players mics up loud enough but he said the cliche stuff, the nab cup experience was great for his development, enjoying every minute of being at Tigerland and feels like he's getting better at each training session.

Also spoke about how he made his way to Australia via Egypt... Has a lot of support from Richmond etc.

Anyone that's had glandular fever will tell you that even after being given the all clear you can still feel the affects for months after - flat, low on energy etc..
Just hAve to be patient wit Ben.

Pardon the intrusion but can confirm this. Was diagnosed with it in November, quite severely and still suffering the effects 6 months later. Have been interested in Ben's progress since I heard he came down with it during the pre-season, have no doubt it would be effecting him to some extent. Best of luck to him.

A full forward who spends 70% game time across half back and the wing :thumbsu:

Yeah, a player doing what's best for the team rather than staying in the goal square seeking personal glory.

Bastard.

Definitely doing what's asked of him, and doing it extremely well. Not necessarily what's best for the team though.

He's had 2 head knocks in 2 weeks in the VFL and missed last week due to those concussions. The VFL team has the bye this week so by next weekend he will have played 20 mins of VFL football in a month.... Won't see him in the seniors before the bye would be my guess
