All-Time - Elgin Baylor.
No contest. There is no hard-luck story that comes close to Baylors. 8 times his Lakers made NBA Finals, and 8 times he lost, 7 to the Celtics. The year he was forced to retire when his knees gives finally gave way... The Lakers finally achieved immortality.

Current - Malone, if he decides to play. Miller if he doesn't.

Person most deserving of having his number retired:

Michael Cooper - #21 for the Los Angeles Lakers. An Integeral part of 5 Championship winning teams, but still yet to have his number retired next to his pals, Kareem, Magic and Worthy.

Any one of: Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis, Flip Murray, Vladimir Radmanovich, Luke Ridnour, Nick Collison, Danny Fortson, Reggie Evans, Antonio Daniels, Damien Wilkins, Robert Swift, Vitaly Potapenko, Mateen Cleaves...

Two things prevented Ewing from winning a title: his own selfish attitude, and John Starks.

Great thread!

Player most deserving of a title in my opinion would be Barkley. Although my initial feeling was that he won a title with the Rockets but on second thought he probably wasn't playing for the Rockets when Jordan had his two season lay-off (95/96), and subsequently thats when the Rockets got their titles.

Other than Barkley, perhaps John Stockton... Mourning... Ewing... yeah.

Cheers.

I don't really agree with Karl Malone, the guy's attitude annoyed me along the years (IE being totally against Magic's comeback with HIV etc) and I never liked the Jazz much anyway.
Reggie's pretty cool however and it would be nice to see him win a ring.
I reckon Paul Pierce deserves one (although he is still fairly young in his hoop career)

A couple of years ago i would have said Malone. But since hes changed clubs chasing a ring im not really a fan of that. So id have to say Reggie for me. That is of players still playing. Dont have a wealth of knowledge on older players to comment really.

Why does everyone want Grant Hill to win one ?
He stabbed the Pistons in the back and went for the more $$$ in Orlando.
Sure he's had injuries over the years, but I think he's good guy 'image' has been tarnished by his transfer to the Magic.
Having said that, I would like to see Steve Franchise (Francis) win one with the Magic, the guy seems like a cool dude.
I wonder if Iverson will ever win one ? Doesn't seem like he's got enough support at Philly at the moment.

I heard an interesting story a while back, I forget where... but as it happens Joe Dumars and Grant Hill used to discuss the problems of the franchise quite regularly as teammates, so it was pretty hard for Dumars to turn around and pitch the Pistons to him. Further, theoretically, Hill was joining the next big thing in terms of franchises.
