Matthew Knights (in his first 8 years before he did his groin) was one of the most classy players I've ever seen. He was impossible to tackle, he spun out of traffic with amazing skill and timing. He could kick 65m on his left with great accuracy. He was strong and had a very good leap and mark for his size. His vision and awareness was first class. He was never the same after his groin and he he was only half the player in his last 5 years. He lost his leap, his kicking went downhill, lost speed and agility and he didn't look invincible anymore and he was getting caught holding the ball and spraying kicks. Was a shame he did his groin when he was about 26 and it was big news that he'll never be able to walk or run the same again. If he didn't get this injury, his last 5 years would have been as awesome as his first 8 and he probably would have played for a couple more years too

tony lockett. looked up 2 him so much and even wore his number when i played auskick and even now, and then of course wirra as i got older.

Really Young - The Krakrours, Peter Knights and Lethal Leigh, Brad Hardie and Mark Bairstow in the WAFL.
Young - Richard Loveridge, Jason Dunstall, Johnny Platten, Andy Collins and Tony Hall - Darren Jarman before he joined the crows as well... Also Adam Hueskes - that boy was a cracker...

Thought I might throw in a couple of WAFL players.

Stephen Michaels - Absolute legend. He has changed the course of more games than any player I have seen. Pity the guys over the east never got to see him week in and week out. He would already be a game legend.

Basil Campbell - If you like it tough they don't come any tougher.
There was a great story about him before the first state of origin game at Subiaco. The story was told I think by Ross Glendinning. Apparently all players were asked to comment at a team meeting what they would bring to the game. Basil's comment was "if anyone touches one of my team mates I'll kill em". Ross followed up by saying he was very glad to be playing in a non WA competition at the time.

Timmy Watson & the Big Fish, Paul Salmon. Also had a man crush on Hirdy, but then again so did every Essendon supporter...

Also loved the way Chris Langford went about his work, best defender I've seen, SOS included.

Although i never saw him play as I was only 1 when he passed away but Darren Milane is one player that many Pies fans tell me they looked upto when he played and from the 1990 grand final dvd i can see why he was such an inspirational player.
