Which Players Were you Surprised Didn't Make It?

Josh Schache COULD have been a victim of this thread, but his last 6 weeks has been super promising. Might end up being a bargin for the Bulldogs.
Showing every sign of being handy.

I remember Ryan Murphy at Freo showing a lot in a final.

Andrew McDougall had one good year at WC and looked a player.

Leigh Fisher looks good before injuries cut him down.

Pat Bowden from the Dogs looked very likely early but just never had the intensity. One ok year at Tigers.

I’m not sure if Ryan Murphy was just another WAFL gun who wasn’t good enough at AFL level, or if he just didn’t get the right chance.

Had a really really nice set shot on him; barely missed. Split packs and just took easy chest marks. His issue was he was only doing this 3-4 times a game and outside of that barely got a touch. But he’d routinely kick six for Souths and is still kicking twice that a game in the country.

He also never played more than about three games in a row. Was quite often given a ‘show something mate’ game but it was when we’d rest half the team in Launceston or something.

Just didn’t get a great go at it. These days he’d be playing every week.

Mark Merenda played some good footy for Richmond in '95-'96, but didn't really kick on

Years ago we had this player called Nick Smith who was drafted as a 196cm 97 brute CHF from South Australia. Captain the state under 18s and was picked at pick 15 in the 2002 draft.

Was seen as the next big CHF after Schwarz retired the year before and even debuted in 2003 for a couple of games.. to then appear for our last finals appearence game way back in 2006 against the dockers as Mark Jamar replacement, only to then be delisted couple weeks later.

Was a huge lad and even had a bigger frame then David Neitz.. would kick bags of goals at Sandy but Daniher just never game him a fair go.

Always rated him higher then Brad Miller...

Heading down a slightly different path, but why did Nick Sautner never get a run at AFL level? Nine-time Frosty Miller Medallist, but was never on a list to my knowledge?

My mail is because he was arrogant, narcissistic and it was all about him - egomaniac with zero team values. I believe his skills got him close with the Sainters but when they spent time with him he was cut...for the above mentioned reasons.

I remember about 7 or so years ago watching a Sunday game between the Power and Bulldogs. They nicknamed this guy King Tutt because of his amazing game.

I didn't much or anything about him after that.
Did kick the winning goal in a huge upset against the Pies in 2014 but they were his only moments of note

How many VFL players have a website which - during his playing days - was almost exclusively about their VFL career?

http://www.nicksautner.com/

I remember when he played in the EJ Whitten Game in about 2011? I remember the quote from Gary Lyon on commentary “a healthy respect for his own ability”
