Crows have the most balanced youth. North have gone all in on mids but glaring holes elsewhere.

I think Crows have some glaring quality gaps in midfield. Forward line looking elite and some nice defenders. They have some players who have the scope to play midfield but none that have shown that consistent ability yet.

North have gone all in the middle.

Hawks are building a nice midfield and some pieces in defence but are lacking some quality forwards.

Crows will be able to start picking for list needs from this year. Hawthorn and North still should be going best available.

Interesting times ahead.

It’s weird how in this thread guys like Rachele, Pedlar and Soligo have apparently not shown consistent ability in the midfield, meanwhile a guy like Mackenzie (who had 1 CBA today) has.

Most young midfielders spend more time forward/back or on the wing before moving into full time mid time. It’s a natural progression. Look at Butters and Rozee at Port.

How about today?

We don't even have 6 old players lol.

Yeah, Hawks younger players were far more impressive than the Crows today...
Not the first time someone has tried to argue Dawson is sone how an older player, it’s a shitty manipulation tactic used by those who can’t form a proper argument.

Keays was not Adelaide’s best today, his fumbles and crap disposal cost us the game
Yep, everyone has been praising Noble’s tackle, in reality all Keays had to do was a simple tap on to Jones and we were out.

I’m not a Keays hater, but his inability to assess that situation is one of his key limitations that mean he is just a role player, and far from one of our best.

There's a big difference in what Day/Newcombe are showing in the middle compared to Rachele, Pedlar and Soligo.

Mackenzie I still put in that list of probables along with the likes of Rachele, Pedlar and Soligo (guys who have shown they can play midfield at a junior capacity and rotation level at senior level).

Day and Newcombe were not mentioned in the above comment at all. It refers instead to Macdonald, Ward and Mackenzie.

Soligo also had 1 CBA.

Without him and Laird you don’t even get close.

Crows lack young mids.

I don't think North should be going best available anymore, we're already having trouble giving all the young midfielders game time and that's with LDU out injured

I think trying to get too cute with what is looking like a top 3 pick is fraught with danger.

Laughable, You obviously didn't watch the game

Dawson best on by a mile
Keays barely hit a target all day, Got destroyed by Daicos
And for someone who thinks we rely on Sloane, He was a complete liability, 3 kicks ... 3!
Keays and Laird were your top 2 clearances winners, with 10 and 6. Dawson 5, Sloane 4.

Without Keays and Laird you don’t get close, just like most weeks.

I am happy to cop the debate from Hawthorn, they have some great young players but I'm not going to entertain the Kangaroos pretending they have a finals team on the horizon.

I'll take Wardlaw and Sheezel. You can keep the rest. Get out of the thread, you are that person stuck on welfare and doing nothing to fix the situation but really loving the tag of being a battler, or in this case 'Having the best youth'. You've had it for 6 years now, when do all of these guns grow up? It's like the 30 year old who keeps having a 21st birthday.

Should be a separate WCE North thread tbh.

North are the oldest and most experienced of the three lists discussed, but by far the worst performing.

No doubt they have some rolled gold talent (as do all the clubs) but when it's North doing the developing it's a bit worrisome.

Newcombe, yes.

Day, No.

Soligo wins more center clearances per CBA than Day, Rachele not far behind Day either.

Day tends to be a better clearance player around the ground than the center.

Per CBA is such a dumb metric.

Day is absolutely braining him in terms of output in the midfield. Day is an out out established midfielder. Soligo (from the eye test and as the stats indicate) is a forward who is slowly getting integrated in the midfield rotations.

Would be happy to revisit once(if) Soligo becomes a full time centre square mid.

Per CBA is a dumb statistic, yet you go all in on a bunch of meaningless statistics and say that Day is showing a hell of alot more than the others in the middle?

Per stoppage statics show a players ability to win the ball, all totals mean is generally the player has spent more time in there.

Soligo and Pedlar are the two best stoppage players at Adelaide by % of contested contests won, it's just that Pedlar only plays 10% of his TOG there and Soligo only plays around 23%.

The challenge is to continue that win rate % while tripling his CBA's.

If he can, you are talking about an Oliver/Laird/Taranto clearance player who all average a similar clearance win % on higher volume.

Day would not be starting the amount of center square stoppages if Laird and Dawson were in his side.
