Which team's guernsey's are the best?

The simple ones are the best with one dominany colour, and any design that doesnt clash.

So Carlton, Sydney are right up there.

Essendon and richmond are ok.
Woods, North, Geelong would be ok if they didnt clash so badly.

And the shockers like Freo, WCE, Port, even saints are just overengineered debarcles.

Fitzroy - Easily the best by a mile. Substitute the FFC logo with the Fitzroy Lion and it would be just as good, if not better.

Brisbane Lions- Excellent, although needs to make sure the maroon stays maroon.

St.Kilda Saints - Love the colours, especially when in a cross design.

Western Bulldogs- Good. Like the new design with Bulldogs' motif.

Melbourne Demons- Good design. Impressive colours. Would have looked even better as the 'Melbourne Lions'.

Adelaide Crows- Any club wearing essentially Fitzroy's colour's can't be that far wrong.

Richmond Tigers- Like the "clawed" stripe better than the old fashioned one.

Essendon Bombers- Red and black in most combinations is fairly effective.

Sydney Swans- Red and white is quite a good colour combination. Perhaps mainly red with white trimming, would look better.

North Melbourne Kangeroos- Not bad. Like the Kangaroos motif guernsey better than the three stripes.

Carlton Blues- Quite effective, but not as good as the ones above.

West Coast Eagles- Blue and gold vertical stripes with eagle motif as home guernsey looks quite effectoive. I don't think much of their away jumper.

Port Adelaide Power - Don't really like the teal, against the black and white.

Geelong Cats- OK. Blue and white horizontal stripes don't really stand out for me, expecially when measured against Calrton's and North's, similar outfit.

Collingwood Magpies- No. Black adn white vertical stripes, just doesn't do much for me. They're also the old enemy which doesn't help.

Hawthorn Hawks - Don't really like the brown and gold vertical stripes. Brown and gold, in my opinion, seems to look better set against white. However given their tradtiion, one gets used to them.

Fremantle Dockers- Awful. Two-three colours, instead of four would be better. The purple should go. Green is used in no other club's colours so, perhaps should stay. Perhaps Green and White should be the base colours with perhaps red/purple as trimming.

I'm biased, but only to an extent. For example, I concede that our song is not the best. However I am convinced our jumper is the best. Classic simplicity. Strong, traditional and everyone who pulls it on looks good in it (yes I know that sounds biased once again).

So this is my order:

Carlton
Melbourne
Essendon
St Kilda
WCE old one (not the 92 one, but the darker one they started wearing in 95 i think)
Brisbane
Collingwood
Richmond
Adelaide
Geelong
Bulldogs
Freo
Sydney
Hawthorn
Kangas
Power
WCE new guernsey

Looks like it MAY be back next year.

The current home guernsey (which most of us actually quite like) will hopefully become our away uniform, and the old unifrorm (obviously with the new Eagle head) will become the home uniform. (At the moment the club is talking the opposite).

IMO they rank (including WCE reverting to old uniform and all home)

Carlton
Richmond
Essendon
West Coast - 95 (please note - possible (probable) bias)
St Kilda (stripes - not that other thing)
Dockers (home only)
Brisbane
Kangaroos
Melbourne
Collingwood
Bulldogs
Port
Sydney
Geelong
Adelaide
Hawthorn

Is this your latest incarnation SeinDude? The act still needs a lot of work.

The North Melbourne Blue and Silver top they wore in the Pre Season Comp is probably the best one I've seen.

I don't mind the Lions and Dees, but the other I don't really care for.

The one I like the least (and this will get me in trouble) is the North Melbourne guernsey with the Kangaroo motif on the front. I hate it, absolutely hate it.

Port Adelaides Guernsey is by far the best..(.its Home Guernsey)

the contrast between the Black and Teal at the top of the Guernsey is dynamic and a breathe of fresh air to the staid Guernsey designs that rorate thru the AFL.

Perhaps the best combination would be to remove the teal and revert to Our former colours of Black and white in the Prison Bar style Guernsey..

This style Guernsey is now worn by a Club in the SANFL called the Port Magpies Football Club, it was Used by us for the better part of Last century and a stiking design.

2. Brisbane Lions...sensational Guernsey.
3. Melbourne..Gotta love the tradition in that one.
4. Sydney... Good Colours, so hard to go wrong.
5. Carlton..... Dark, Brooding, Imposing , Traditional motif a Favourite

6..St.Kilda.... The straight tri colour or the Red, white, Black cross design. This is such an imposing Jumper, sad that it has Never had the repect such a good design deserves.

7.Geelong.....different perspective on traditional Vertical stripes.

8. Kangaroos, Collingwood, Hawthorn...BORING !!

9.Western Bulldogs....great colours, dogs breakfast design

10 Richmond, Essendon...Really exciting Designs on their guernseys
 Boring!

11. West Coast..Old Guernsey better than current one...but sad case overall

12. Adelaide..Lollipop, Lollipop, Oh. Lolly, Lollypop

13. Fremantle, the only thing it doesnt have in it is carrots when you see it on the floor so its a dead giveaway that its not a pile of Chunder...but it still stinks.

SANFL.

1. Port Magpies
2. North Adelaide ( current Guernsey not that Vertical thing )
3. Sturt / South Good traditional designs.
4. Norwood..traditional imposing..good colours
5. Centrals Good Colours
5. Glenelg / West Adelaide Boring
6. Eagles.....yuk the old West Torrens Eagle on the blue Background was much more imposing

No surprises you all 'dump' on Hawthorn.

I rally like the Aus guernsey when they play Ireland - Its the best football shirt I've ever seen in any sport anywhere.

They should model a new Oz flag on it.

The simple is the best hoops, stripes or a V. Essendon, Richmond,

I reckon the best jumper of all is the Big V from the State of Origin games (pretty strange coming from a West Aussie).

I'll have a stab at this:

Adelaide-not bad but a bit too much going on with the different coloured stripes. Remember the kiss principle here. (Keep it simple stupid, not lets get dressed up as demons and spacemen with silver platform boots)

Brisbane-An excellent job in merging the old Brisbane Bears jumper (which was an abomination) and the Fitzroy jumper (which was damn good)

Carlton-Always liked the jumper. The logo gives it a touch of class (although Jack Elliott more than compensates for it)

Collingwood-Simple and effective.

Essendon-See Above. Only gripe is that there is very little difference between the Bombers and Richmond guernseys

Fremantle-Oh dear. Why didn't they just stick with green and one other colour? It would have stood out and branded the club well. Instead they went with an amalgamation of colours which the worst acid head would be freaked out by and added an anchor to attract the obviously huge market from the sailing fraternity.

Geelong-Not too sure of this one. The old traditonal jumper was fine. No other side had horizontal hoops. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hawthorn-I'm always going to be a bit defensive here being a Hawks supporter and all. Well it is traditional and no other club is going to use the colours, so it does the job in identifying the club as good as any jumper. As the great Don Scott said "They might not be the prettiest colours but they're our colours"

Kangaroos-A touch of the old as well. I always like the different shade of blue the Roos use.

Melbourne- A strong guernsey. Their pre-season job with the Demon logo on it was a ripper as well.

Port Adelaide-Sorry guys but this is horrific. Black and white are good strong colours but obviously associated with another team in the AFL. So what do the brain's trust come up? Teal. Come on guys it's not 1987 anymore. Warning: never watch a Port game with a hangover. This jumper can and will induce vomiting.

Richmond-see Essendon

St Kilda-They've got the trifecta here. Strong colours, a nice design and an emblem. Great jumper.

Sydney-A pretty good job of keeping the old (South jumpers) and adding a twist of the new (The Opera House in the V).

West Coast-The away jumper is the WORST in the comp. I've seen pavement pizzas that are more attractive to look at. Their old blue and gold however was great. Why not stick with it?

Western Bulldogs-Another good job, Good colours and the Bulldog motif does work.

Well as you could probably guess I prefer the more simple jumpers. Two colours (three at most) should be fine. A nice simple design: stripes, sash or v.

Remember it's not a bloody fashion parade. The idea is for the team to have a recognisable image. The new fangled designs are only going to look stupid and dated in five to ten years time. Hawthorn learnt this lesson with the 'legendary' 1995 pre-season jumper. Keep it simple and you have something for posterity's sake.

Interesting to see how the opinions vary so much...quite interesting but still think this is the best, but i am probably biased!

But the striped ones are TERRIBLE!!!!!

I agree with you there. As will nearly every single Swans supporter.

Problem is, we only wear them say once a year, and that is because we play Melbourne, who also have red socks....

The old Bears jumper WAS an abomination, but the jumper of 1992-6 was one of the best going around.

The current jumper, while excellent, has taken nothing of either Bears jumper other than returning the Roys jumper to its former shade of maroon.

The last Bears jumper was quite a ripper, actually. Maroon body with a gold V edged in white.

Adelaide's jumpers would both benefit from having just one pair of stripes across the chest. KISS indeed.
