Geelong? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but Geelong didnt even make the finals in 1990.

Having said that, was at both, (AFL Membership (VFL then) gotta love it), and the 89 GF only had 1 good quarter, that was the last.(But boy it was good)

It was the better game simply on this, as Essendon failed to turn up at all in 1990, making it a non contest (thank god).

Still think the WCE v Geelong 92, or Adel vs Stkilda 97, are the only 2 in the last 20 years that compare to 89.

1989 is the best Grand Final of the past 20 years, maybe more, yes. But the 2005 Grand Final was a joke. A four point game in a Granny and you'd think beauty, but I was there, and if you were there you'd know too, it was boring as sh?t. If it wasn't for Leo Barry making the ONLY highlight, it would've ranked as the worst game of the year.

This weekend is only exciting because those guys in 1989 gave us this day to look forward to.

Tough and contested, exciting till the very end.... maybe not as significant as the 89 Grand Final but IMO up there with the better Grand Final matches of the last 20 years.

This coming Grand Final has all the characteristics to make it a classic, hopefully both teams can live up to the expectation!

The 1990 grand final is my favourite of all time, but that's just because I'm a Pies supporter. I could imagine for a neutral watching it would've got pretty boring from the second quarter onwards.

2005 was pretty ordinary I agree.

I guess there is that balance between historically memorable(Cats thrashing Port by 119) and gripping competition(2006) which made 89 so epic.

From a independant sort of perspective both the form of the Cats and Hawthorn aswell as the circumstances/players involved this year have the potential to make this happen. No offense intended but I hope Hawthorn stick it to you guys right to the last. Without a doubt your dominance is established, we can just hope(for an entertaining match) some of that 89 fire for the Hawks is reproduced or this match. Maybe a bit of the old argy bargy I say.

1990 had some great moments, particularly for collingwood supporters, but any fan would appreciate the brawl at QUARTER time, daicos' 2 goals that afternoon, derek Kickett's unbelievable effort. and gavin Brown coming back on to headbutt Terry Daniher after being KO'd, then kicking his 2nd goal in the 3rd quarter. we were never going to lose from that moment.

For all that, it wasn't a contest, the game followed on from the semi final when we ran away in the 2nd half, following the kickett, madden, Scotty Russell debacle off half back.

89 was a classic, and we waited till 02 for another good one. 06 was a beauty, the best i've seen.

Quite right. I honestly think 89 was a better spectacle (even though I was only 11). I clearly remember the Dermie hit and how was grimacing while jogging off with the trainer.

I only remember 1990 for the final siren with Pants pocketing the ball.

So '89 for me.
