Too smallWhat are the odds of Wells reaching for McHenry? We almost need to trade Kelly to get pick 20 to take him instead of pinging early at 12
At 12 I don't mind what we take so long as it is not another bloody reach job. Nation wide consensus best available.
I'd say on a needs basis, we need quality goal scoring talent, which Sam Sturt fits the bill. I think I would pull the trigger on him at Pick 12.I know there is a draft element to one of other topics but I thought it would be good to have a specific draft one to get peoples thoughts.
This is based on what you think might be available around 12 and maybe couple around 20 if that deal for two pics gets done with WC:
Here are mine
for 12
1. Sam Sturt has as much upside as anyone in the draft. He is a lightening HFF/Third tall who has beautiful skills. He smashed the TAC in the second half of the year when he joined after only playing school footy. Tested brilliantly for jumping, speed and agility. He is a natural goal score who knows where they are and that is what we need.
2. Xav O: Inside outside mid with speed and quality disposal. I think we have too many 1 paced ball winners and although this kid wins his own ball he also has speed to break the lines. Great leadership as supposedly.
3. Jordan Clark: One of the best kicks in the draft. Loves to take the game on off HB and can defend one on one whilst also punishing his opponents going the other way. Played league in WA late in the season and didn't look out of place averaging 15 touches.
4. Xav: Duursma: Very similar to the other Xavier.
Around 20:
Chayce Jones: Tasmian who is a hard as nails mid. Kicks well on both sides and is another "inside" mid who has good pace. Like Sturt he tested really well at the combine and I am almost certain if he played in VIC he would be more highly touted. Could go much earlier as I have no feel for how each clubs rates them.
Jez Mclennan: Could be a stretch this high and might go a bit later but could be one of the steals of the draft for mine. He is just a ready made footballer who reads the game very well and is brilliant at intercepting across half back. Takes the game on the second he lands after taking an intercept mark and is a neat kick. Could play on taller opponents at the next level because he is such a great competitor. Reminds me a little of the great Boris Enright because he just reads the game so well.
Ian Hill: I really think this guy could slip because he has had a down year but has ridiculous speed and forward craft.
Curtis Taylor: Another like Sturt who is born to play in the forward line but might be able to push into the midfield as a decent size mid later in his career. Has a bit of the freak about him again a bit like Menzel pre knees. Not sure about his endurance or overall production because I haven't watched him enough but he has that "could be anything feel about him".

Aside from the above, I do like the way Liam Stocker moves. He is very quick off that first 10 steps, and his foot-skills to a leading target are apparently pretty good. Didn't win the Morrish medal for no reason!

The last 3 winners in a row look pretty good thoughNever thought the Morrish Medal meant much at all to be honest and apart from the last couple of years most of the winners did nothing in the AFL.

Stocker has strong acceleration off the first 10 steps... that's gold for a natural accumulator, also good by foot. That wasn't in any way a criticism of Stoker as I a haven't seen him play.
3 picks before us with Adelaide teams, I suspect Hately will go to one of those picks before us.On form at SANFL senior level, size and development it's Jackson Hately for me.
Reckon we need a big midfielder who can also go forward and back to compliment
Constable.
We currently have a bag full of young small mids that needs balancing out.
We also are losing Ghs Murdoch Thurlow and Menzel all around 190cm.
For balance he's a good choice and AFL ready to go, no muckin' around.
Like OHalloren with a 20 pick if poss.
Sturt reminds me of Smedts.
Living in Adelaide, couldn’t agree more but if Port have pick 10 by the time of picking, they may take him I think. Like xoh idea as well.On form at SANFL senior level, size and development it's Jackson Hately for me.

I say we trade 12 live in the draft to west coast for 20, 22 and their 2019 2nd rounder. Proving once and for all even they didn't rate it equal to a top 10 pick.
Is this where we take notes from WCE fans regarding draft tampering without actually draft tampering by telling all clubs with picks ahead of us how it would be unfair on Sam Walsh if he is drafted by anyone other than Geelong because he surely shouldn't be made to move from his house in Geelong as it could cause great distress on the young lad & he needs to be close to family as he transitions into adulthood & becoming a football player?

Would honestly not try and to be too clever about it and just grab XOH, RCD, Sam Sturt or Hately. Whoever Wells rates the highest, that's who we get. Would be more likely to grab someone who can have an immediate impact like XOH or Hately, but understand thinking of the future too.
My thoughts exactly. There’ll be an “obvious pick” come pick 12. With the likes of Clark and Sturt bolting, someone has to slide out of the top 10. I’m thinking probably Hately at this point, maybe Caldwell.
I reckon Sturt will be the pick with Clark going to GWS before us. Doubt Sturt goes before our first and he has a Wells feel to it. Tested well, massive room for development and fills a need as a goal kicking, marking medium forward. Hately, XOH and RCD all appear a little too vanilla for a Wells first pick for me. Caldwell is the other that he could take if he falls but with the injury history of our list I'd be surprised if Wells took the risk with him.
I think Sturt is overhyped. Played six TAC games and only featured in the best players once. Too much risk at pick 12 for mine.
Anyone reckon there is a chance we try to package up some of our late picks and trade them to a team who wants points for academy players for a pick in the 30s?
