Who DON'T you want to draft?

i wouldn't take d.rich at pick 5 if hartlett were available. i have no doubt rich will be a good player but i see him ias a bit podgy n the drew banfield/paul hasleby mould. solid but not outstanding. hartlett on the other hand could be a craig bradley/chris judd type.

would be ropable if essendon took yarran at pick 5. efc have plenty of talented aboriginals already playing in similar positions (davey, lovett, jetta). i'd say its genetic that these guys can only play in bursts as have the body composition of fast twitch fibres and minimal endurance. they are great for their speed and freakish play but you cannot have too many in one side. would be a complete waste taking yarran when they could get a gun midfielder instead.

I don't want any small crumbing forward for the Dogs, regardless if he is the "best available" or not. I'd prefer not to pick up a skinny HFF either; we have an abundance of those too.

Outside mids don't excite me very much. A guy can be a world champion sprinter, it doesn't necessarily mean he plays fast. I like mids who win clearances, tall forwards who take marks and kick goals, small forwards who win groundballs, key defenders who bring the ball to ground and small defenders who rebound.

Footy talent >>> athleticism. Ideally you want both (Watts, Nat), but I'd take Hurley over Trengove any time. I don't rate Blease that highly. I'm not as big on Hill as some. I like Yarran but I'd rather Ziebell or Sidebottom. I like Johnston and McKernan a lot. I think Heyne and Strauss are underrated by some.

Good post.

We definately come from the same school of thought.

You can do all the drills in the world, but when a game is in the balance, it is usually the instictive capabilities of a natural footballer that will win you the game.

The problem with any of these players as to whether your team picks them or not is that all of them are totally UNKNOWN quantities, aside from natanui, rich and watts the rest well who knows !

The hype surrounding them means nothing,as all always there could be gem in amongst them or they all could turn out to be spuds.

Take Chris Egan as an example with collingwood top 10 pick afew years ago,now he is looking for anew home.

I hope your clubs are of the same opinion, if that were the case we'd be almost assured of picking up Yarran with a second round draft pick, this whole "he won't be good because he is too lazy" shit is nonsense, I bet more than half the Vics in this thread have never seen him play

I'm going to continue with the trend and say:

1. Johnston - lets pick on best available rather than type as much, picking up Johnson would ignore better players.
2. Yarran - not because he isn't a very good player. He is. Very good. But we have small forwards/HFF/rotating midfielders playing his role, like Tambling, Pettifer, Deledio, Morton etc. Not a massive need. Plus I think there would be mids better suited to us.

Trengrove and McKernan scream tweener to me. If we need KPP, pick them don't pick hybrids. Again it seems trying to fill two needs, just pick best available.

I realize one says best available, 2 says type but Yarran is going a bit too far, best available but not picking another flanky wingman or HFF.

I'm sure said players will be good but this is an important draft for Richmond, starting to put it all together and this pick will be important. I will murder someone if we pick another JON. Richmond doesn't really have an ideal player like Fremantle and Rich, partly because it has deficiencies in every area. But there are areas which are already filled. Some which aren't filled, we would be picking for type. Fwiw I think Yarran would be a good fit at Carlton and Brisbane, Carlton need more than one goal scorer, Brisbane need pace and a HFF to complement Brown and Bradshaw. If I were a blue or lion fan I'd be happy with him.

sheesh would take yarran in a heartbeat. bottom aged kid playing against men at wafl level and doing fine. hes had hammy probs so far this yr carried a hammy into the u18s champs. hes a genuine mid with sublime skills.

the one i dont want is ziebel this surprises even me. i love bigbodied hard at it skillful footballers but i have grave concerns about ziebel ever developing a motor. his draft camp results for me were damning.

Clancee Pearce.

Pick 40 is too high for a defender who won't get to pick 69.

Would back in Armfield, Browne and Anderson and look at other types for pick 40.

Pearce could get his weight down once he joins an AFL club, but 89 kgs is still a huge weight for a medium defender.
Haha... have you ever seen him play?

He was one of the best players for Swans in the finals this year. Especially in the prelim and grand final.

40 would be a steal. Would not be surprised to see him go early 2nd round and is a potential dark horse in the draft.

Capisce?

We need either a tall, medium or small forward at pick 40 and not another backman.

We need a player who can win matches, not save them.

Some have said Pearce's disposal has question marks against it, so I think we will pass on any player IF he isn't a good kick.

My god. Picky lot we are. I rekon almost every top 10 prospect has been mentioned once here plus a few others outside. Even if you think your club might not need them, they are still worthy of a spot on your list and I'm sure MOST of you will quickly come to love your player when he starts to dominate. I know we all have our ideal dream draft but yer, a lot of you I'm sure might not get whay you want.....but in reality it won't be all that bad. Chin up :thumbsu:

Fair enough. But you just prove that you haven't seen anything of him.

He has first class skills and decision making, second only to Rich in skills, but better decision making IMO out of the WA brigade - but like has been said, has an unconventional technique. Very much like a Roger Hayden/ Johncock type.
