Who gets dropped for Jamo and Bower next week?

Watson has to stay in...surely I'm not the only one that saw his kick-in missile that fell just short of the centre circle? Some of his field kicking (the one blooper aside) was off the ****ing charts...I haven't seen low 50m spot ups like that since Ang was doing his thing.

Jamo for White. Hendo for Thornton. Would like to find a spot for Ellard...may be the man for Swan.

I don't think Ellard has the pace to go with Swan nor the size/strength to stop Swan from pushing off him at stoppages. Armfield has the pace, appears to have to strength but does he have the nous and endurance? I'd rather leave it up to Carrazzo. He won't stop Swan completely, but he will keep him in the 20s, offer something the other way and not get slaughtered when caught one out. The only other Blues that could nullify him would be Gibbs & Russell, both of whom are more valuable elsewhere.

Watsons kicking was great, but his defensive work was poor. Can we afford to play him on Cloke or Dawes, who both have great hands, or even Jolly or Brown who aren't that bad on their own? Is he a better choice than White, Thornton or Waite?

Sounds to me like a lot of us agree that Jamo is in the best 22 and when fully fit and firing, Bower and Henderson are in the best 22. I am just extremely worried that Ratten will do his usual thing of not wanting to change a winning side that much, instead of just playing the best 22! (I mean c'mon, it was GC!):(

Think White should stay in but not just for his kick ins. His biggest plus is his ability to keep his feet in one on one marking contests. We have had precious few defenders of late who can do this. Also would keep Thornton but as a forward.

Sorry meant to say Watson above not White.

Jammo for White should be the only change.

Bower can have one in the magoos to warm up.

Yeah, agree - don't like too many changes to a winning team: Jamo in and White out, that's it. Hendo and Bower might come in for the Essendon match. Good to see Collins and McLean up and about, and looking forward to seeing Kreuzer back in another month or so. It'll be tough combating Dawes and Cloke - big job for Jamo and Watson!

It has to be Jamo and Watson plus Laidler, Bower, Russell, Yarran, Duigan or whoever else we have down there. It can't just be left to the two of them, time for our defenders to really start helping each other out. This is a real strength of Laidler's.

Anyone above who has mentioned Watson getting dropped is a fool. His kicking skills were sublime for a first gamer and his ability to kick the ball 60mts plus to advantage will be invaluable in breaking down the Collingwood press.

By the end of the season Watson will be rated as our most valuable defender. See if I'm wrong.

I don't have to wait for anything to tell you that this is a ridiculously stupid comment.

Watto will be a very good footballer in future years. But to suggest that he's going to be anywhere near our most valuable defender at the end of season 2011, is just plain ridiculous.

Considering that we don't have anything higher than a B grade key position defender on our list (Waite is a forward as far as I'm concerned), I don't consider it to be a big call.

Whilst Jamison and Bower finished 2009 showing great potential, in 2010 (for a number of reasons) they were flat out terrible. Both players practically lost our final against Sydney off their own 'boots', so to speak. Our backline in general cost us a number of games towards the end of the season with pathetic efforts.

Watson has very little to beat. His sublime kicking skills, along with good users of the football in Yarran, Laider and Duigan, will have a hugely positive effect on our backline this year. Playing Watson at CHB will have a postive effect on Bower, is better suited taking a 3rd tall.

I stand by my comments and will be happy to see this thread bumped at the end of the year.

Jammo in for White. I don't think White is up to AFL standards. Am happy to give Bower, Hendo and McLean another week before considering them. Can't afford to play anyone that's underdone against Collingwood.

Was I the only one who thought Laidler has struggled, more Saturday than last week.

Watson's kicking must have him pushing to hold a spot.

White certainly first in line but has the bigger body - Dawes?

Why not ? Jamo at best is only ok and he is our best so I also wouldn't be surprised if Watson is our number 1. He looks a ripper to me.

Bower if fit goes to cloke has done well before, Jamo to Dawesome and Watson the sweeper.

White out

For what it is worth I'll put mine on the line by suggesting we may have better match ups this week without Watson, Hampson and Thornton in our team against Collingwood.
There would be a strain on Warnock if Hampson was to be omitted, but from what I've seen, he may just be over awed against The Pies.
I'd take this risk.

Who would be our second ruck? .. Thornton rucked in Hampson's absence on Saturday and if you took both out then Warnock would have to ruck near 100%. .. You'd risk burning Warnock out, like happened last year. .. Until Kreuz returns or either Casbolt / Setanta (returns) and has a consistant blinder, Hammer wont be out of the team. .. I would also suggest Thornton is eye'd as a back up in the ruck too, atm.

not so silly Harks. Mumford shouldered the ruck duties for the Swans this week....wouldn't advocate it every week but this week might be a valid strategy

It will be an interesting decision to make. I personally think Jammo can come straight back into the squad to help deal with the Cloke/Dawes combination.

As much as I hate to say this, I think either Curnow or Armfield should be the player to be dropped. We could then potentially place someone like Walker as the sub.

Normally I prefer to have a midfielder as the sub, but I think Walker could do a perfectly fine job.

In: Jammo
Out: Armfield (It would not hurt for him to get a full game in the 2nds)

So in our starting 22, it is basically Jammo coming into the squad for Walker, which is a tall for tall styled swap.

It would not kill Bower to come back via the 2nds to build match fitness and form.

the only hitch with playing Warnock as the sole ruck is it reduces his potential to go forward if we need another marking target.

but they still had White in the team in case required. ..

Prove it.

Just for the sake of the exercise, if Warnock was going to go in as our sole ruckman having to contest 75% of ruckwork, what do you do for the other 25%?
I'd try to cluster the contest? Why not?

Cluster-f*&% more like, as we snuff out any chance we might have had. Hampson has to play.

Thought he was very impressive against Richmond - not so last week.

On watson, would love to see him play. That kick is a huge asset and could be very valuable in combating Collingwood's zone.
