He definitely did. He entered into the start of last season significantly bigger than the year before too. He seems to have a good attitude

After round 9 last year he averaged about 25.3 disposals a game.
If he could emulate his form in rounds 19 and 20 about 8-10 times a year while consistently being involved for most other games then he will quickly become close to our most damaging midfielder.

So much bull crap has been said on Selwood on this forum. Mindless postulating about the substance of his game, and where and how he's best utilized.

The question is can he match and come on from his 2012 season and there is no reason to suggest he can't if fit. Some might suggest it's an outlier, but both 11/12 were a good indication of what he can produce in a functional midfield unit.

There are several issues around his disposal both inside and outside of stoppages, but the principle one is about where he wins the ball going forward. In 2013 he had been on the end of a lot of trash ball in contested situations and been rushing the ball forward mindlessly. It was truly a train wreck of a season (inside 50 count says it all) and no more or less indicative of Selwood's abilities than hisstandout season in 2012.

We all know what Selwood brings to stoppages as far as defensive prowess and how his hands aren't clean enough to be an elite extractor. But defensively he's second to none at this club and one of the better players in the competition when it's his singular task. The second of Selwood's most favorable attributes is that he's an elite high intensity runner. When at his best, his power over the ground is excellent, that's something that other players who he's been compared to here simply can't bring to the table, and it was something that was missing in his game in 2013 (he lost weight and looked weak over the deck).

Selwood's third strength is his ability over head, he's a strong mark and if our midfield unit is functioning properly and Selwood is in a position to run into space offensively then he's got the capacity to open up games quickly and put us in a good offensive position with retained possession. Perhaps more so than anyone bar Shuey and Yeo.

I think Selwood's task is simple, he's first mindset is to be defensive, especially at stoppages and then when given opportunities he looks for space and does it hard as possible. If he's used as a run with player is at this stage irrelevant and probably dependent on the performances of others as much as his own form and fitness.

The Selwood debate ..... maybe he will end up with a brownlow

Here is a ?

Can Lecras get better ? Can Darling get better ? Can Kennedy get better ?
Can Shuey get better ? Can Wellingham get better ?

= Who knows
the mids have given us plenty of ball in recent years but i think the forwards and goal kicking mids really have been below par. on paper it would appear our fwd line is ok but to answer your question is they can they should and we need em to

Do we want our mids with plenty of ball or quality ball use? Forwards struggle without quality ball entry.

Similar to the age old question are you happy with hooking up with numerous below average birds or a few hot birds :D

As long as you're scoring I guess it doesn't matter so much

People forget he can play tall and had done in the past so a combo of him, JK and the resting ruckman is very potent. Dont forget Cripps who could snag 20-30.

You could be fooled into thinking Lecras output is starting to slowly dwindle, but 2014 was statistically his highest CD ranking season.

Kicked 30 goals from 15 games, which is decent, but he got more of the pill last year than any other season to ave 18 touches a game.

Also improved his tackle count.

Does that include his game against the Saints in round 3 where he got injured in the first few minutes? Average even better.

To put it bluntly... his skills are shit. He is the worst midfielder in the team by foot, after Matt. Particularly in front of goal.

While it's a crude measure, Priddis has a career goal accuracy of 54.37% while for Selwood it's 54.69%. Shuey is 51.72%, Masten is 58.62%, Gaff is 50.00% and Rosa is 44.44%.

He has no composure, constantly fumbling and panicking with wild disposals. It would be a bad idea to make him captain.

He is poor overhead. Due to his physical attributes.

To finish, he shows very little creativity, compared to say Shuey, Masten or even Sharrod. It's why most people on here would rather he sticks to tagging.

He's probably at Rosa's level. Fully recognizing Selwood rarely plays with Rosa's time and space.
