Anyone pick the Gov to do what he did this year?
I bet not.
So question is......
Who will be the next to have a Gov breakout year?

Personally I hope Sheed. We need a midfielder to breakout and we have already had Gaff, Shoo, Masten show their stuff for 7rl seasons so time for one of the new bloods and I hope Sheed can step up and be that x-factor mid we need.

I find the vast majority of purples like Nic. This is despite him challenging Sandilands, playing for us and being the media darling.

Really? That would be refreshing to see that. All I ever see is purple flogs banging on about how he's overrated and quoting that game where he got 0 possessions, despite a lot of the things he does not being measurable in stats alone.

I personally think we are at this stage where one or two A grade mids injected to the team will give guys like masten, shuey and also sharrod more freedom and damaging. yeo to the mid next year will be the one to watch, he breaks lines and the rest of the team will lift. we are not that far off. hope to see pickett in the eagles top next year.

Draft Cockatoo this year, get Coniglio at the end of next and out midfield will be completely different.

Naitanui Shuey Yeo Coniglio Cockatoo Sheed Gaff + Masten Selwood Newman Sheppard as support crew.

Looks great on paper!

Most purples I've come across loathe him. They also think Zac Clarke of all players is better than him.

Brown vs schofield is an interesting one for me as brown as a stopper is better but has a poor offensive game and looks like a deer in the headlights when under pressure
Schofield is not as good defensively but adds great run and disposal by foot .
With the emergence of Gov as the perfect spare man in defence / third tall option with his awesome intercept marking and bullet like kicking we really only need one of schoey and brown to help emac
Unless an injury strikes I can see schofield not getting game time and asking for a trade at seasons end
I can also see lycett drawing a much better defender and leaving darling to have a better year in front of goals

Did we have a McGovern in 2012 or 2013?

McGovern always had rare talent, the question was of fitness, drive and a coach willing to give him a chance.

Can see McGovern developing as a Brian Lake type defender.

Would like to see him put in a full season as a key defender.

Either end will do me.:rainbow:

He's got the capacity to be the general at either end, just a question of where we need him the most and can get the most out of him.

Yeah I prefer him up forward, especially as CHF so Darling is free to play flank and be a dangerous third tall option, and Kennedy stays as FF.

We just need to draft his brother and we'll be set!

Apparently he's meant to be more talented so I hope we take a punt with our third rounder!

I have a feeling Sheed will be a big improver.

He didn't have much impact this year, but he wasn't exactly given a starting spot in the best 22 each week and probably needs some more time to gain confidence and find his rhythm. He has to impose himself on the game a bit more, but IIRC once or twice he missed out on a pass/feed out of congestion in favour of one of the more experienced players so I wouldn't put this solely on him.

His decision making and disposal look the goods. I was really impressed with most of the disposals he had, except for his missed shots on goal - which I would put down to nerves - and I think one delivery inside 50 which fell a bit short. Seems to sum up the options quickly and doesn't look panicked; this makes him look a bit slow, as does his gait/lethargic movement style, but I think that's more appearance than function. Similarly, I think his speaking manner in interviews makes him seem slower than he is, but I rate his football IQ quite highly on what we've seen.

I am really looking forward to his 2015 season, as I think a little more confidence and time as part of the team will start to put some polish on his play. As above, I think he made the right decisions most of the time and almost executed some great disposals/goals, but looked to not yet be settled. He showed a lot of promise for me, without quite being there yet.

EDIT: Also, he needs to learn to pin the arms in tackles.

Scotty Lycett for me looks to be a a grader in the making.
His body shape has changed so much over the last two years.
Looking at preseason photo's has got leaner and more cut again.
Think he will be a star.

Lycett has my vote as well and with him follows Naitanui.

Posted this in the draft thread, Lycett is a big brute of a ruck / forward and he will crash packs plus soften up opposition ruckman with his body on body style. Then Naitanui will rotate onto a bruised, sore, worn down opponent......wouldn't be much fun being a ruck opponent against these two.

Cox is by far our best ruck by far but Lycett adds something Cox didn't and that is heavy inside body pressure. Love how he jumps into and rag dolls opponents when tackling.

He's also quite a nice shot on goal, unlike a few ruckmen

My top 5
1.Murray Newman
2.Sharrod Wellingham
3.Dom Sheed
4.Scott Lycett
5.Jermy McGovern

Murray Newman: Full pre-season and Committed he could be a top 22 player
Sharrod Wellingham: Hopefully over his injuries he can have his form at Collingwood
Dom Sheed: 1st pre-season and hopefully ready for the rigours of AFL
Scott Lycett: Showed some good signs in 2014 and with more game time he could be a great ruckman
Jermy McGovern: Had a great season off the rookie list and can only get better
