You've got a proven elite level one on one key defender about to play his last game...and its a biggy so u wont need to motivate him for it...and u can use his last game as extra motivation for others too.

OR..you've got a weakling with absolutely no footy smarts at all that spent the entire season being made look good by Sam Fisher and others. You know that everytime Dawson was one out during the yr against any sort of quality he was useless.

Will go down as one of the more bizzarre decisions...add that to one of the BEST decisions which was committing a brownlow medallist to try to quell Hayes who was absolutely killing you. There's the result. Hayes and Bartel had blinders in rnd 14 and cancelled each other out after qtr time in the grannie. Easily the pinnacle of the midfield matchups of the season those two. Thompson didnt get enough credit for that move i reckon...bit the bullet and committed to it early and might have been different if he put a lesser guy on Hayes.

I've never had a problem with Milne.

I was thinking about posting what a good bloke Liam Picken was (but that's opposite what the thread is) when my son's team had drills with the Williamstown seniors 2-3 season back. Picken was a nobody, playing reserves I think, and he was fantastic. The kids loved him, and the bit I saw, he was genuine and generous with his time.

... although I do agree on Motlop. A peaheart to boot.

My wife reckons a few nights ago I was screaming out in my sleep, abusing the f**k out of someone (I had been up late working, then drank beers and was on BF, like tonight) and although I can't remember exactly who it was, I can narrow it down to two:

a) Ricky Ponting
b) Henry Playfair.

Playfair is obvious. Decent bloke, bad hair, shocking waste of a trade pick. Couldn't kick a chained-up labrador in the arse that bloke...

Ponting is obviously not an AFL player, but he was in my nightmare. Every time I hate Australian cricket for the shitfull, boring Liberal-voting state of 4WD pajero mediocrity it has sunk into, I think of that malevolent, beady-eyed, disco-woman-bashing-coz-she-won't-dance-with-me wankjob. He is the Brent Guerra of Australian cricket.

Wow ... biiig call, colourfully put, and I agree ... apart from the bit about big Hank. He seems like a decent feller, you can't hate him just for being an ordinary footballer.

Ponting, on the other hand ... one of the main reasons I can't stand cricket any more.

Absolutely positively spot on!

Still keep thinking: imagine if Bomber Thompson had put Bartel on Hodge in 08???? (yep, never will get over 08 regardless of how many flags we win before and after).

Bartel is pure class, does the job whether in the middle, up back, forward or even tagging.

Agree also that Lyon opted for the wrong man on the day in 09. Hudghton was fit and has the experience. Had he played we would have won by 6 points and there'd be 400 threads on the Hawkins poster goal!
